Award description

The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize is awarded annually by the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture at Columbia University for the best translation from the Japanese. The prizes, since 1989, have been given in two categories annually: translations from Japanese classical literature and from Japanese modern literature. Author, translator, scholar and noted Japanologist, Donald Keene, is currently University Professor Emeritus and Shincho Professor Emeritus of Japanese Literature at Columbia University, where he has taught for over fifty years
