Description | A. J. E Cave was an anatomist from St. Bartholomew's Hosiptal Medical College in London. He is most famous for his work with William Straus, Jr., an anthropologist and anatomist at Johns Hopkins University. Their examination of Neandertal skeletons and their subsequent article helped put to rest the idea that Neandertals were primitive and apelike. Their famous quote was: "Notwithstanding, if he could be reincarnated and placed in a New York subway -- provided that he were bathed, shaved and dressed in modern clothing -- it is doubtful whether he would attract any more attention than some of its other denizens." |
