Character description

Having stayed home caring for her scholarly father, and dealing with all practical matters, Amelia is in her thirties when he dies.   To the amazement of Amelia and her two brothers, he was not impractical when it came to investments, and he leaves his fortune to Amelia.  She immediately embarks on extensive travels, eventually meeting Radcliffe Emerson and his brother Walter in Egypt.
