Description | Harold (I) Harefoot: King of England 1035-1040. One of two sons, half-brothers, of Canute the Great. He was the son of Canute's less official wife, with Harthecanute the son of the more official wife, Emma of Normandy. But Harold was in England when Canute died, and so was able to take the throne. He died without issue after a very short reign, allowing Harthecanute to take his own turn on the throne (and also die young and without legitimate issue). |
