Character description

Hassan Ali Khan is a courtier working for Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab.  He is the son of mystic leader Shaikh Waliullah and husband of Mumtaz Bano, with whom he has a son, Saboor.  Approximately a year before the series opens, he proudly introduced his son, a particularly winning child of six months, to the Maharaja.   To his horror, the Maharaja decided that the child conferred luck and health, and kept Saboor, along with his mother, in the Royal Citadel.   Although still working loyally for the Maharaja, Hassan is desperate to get his family back.
