A wild justice : the death and resurrection of capital punishment in America by Evan J. Mandery

Character description

James Crampton was a drug addict in Ohio who shot and killed his wife.   His case was referred to the US Supreme Court to consider whether a death penalty trial required a separate guilt and sentencing phase.   Crampton v Ohio was a companion cases to McGautha v. California, 402 U.S. 183 (1971), which was a challenge to California's death penalty law.   The law was upheld, but the determination was overturned by Furman v. Georgia, 408 U.S. 238 (1972)
