The historical Lady Anne Clifford (1590-1676) was an aristocrat and heiress who married first Richard Sackville, 3rd Earl of Dorset, and then Philip Herbert, Earl of Pembroke and Montgomery. Her letters and diary provide insight into the lives of 17th-century women of her class.
