Forbidden Fruit: Love Stories from the Underground Railroad by Betty DeRamus

Character description

Lucy Berry, née Millard, was a young Morman woman who took water to hired-out slaves breaking sod in Missouri.  She fell in love with one of them, Isaac Berry.   Berry fled to Windsor, Canada.   Lucy was sent to school on the train, but she got off and bought the tickets to go to Windsor.   She found Isaac when she heard his fiddle playing.  They married, and she was cut off by her family.   In 1877, they moved to Michigan.
