Character description

Mata Hari was the stage name of Margaretha Geertruida Zelle (1876-1917), born in the Netherlands, a popular exotic dancer and courtesan in Paris. She pretended to be a princess or priestess to further her career. During World War I, she traveled frequently between France and her homeland, and may have been acting as an intelligence agent. She was shot by the French as a German spy.
