Character description

Phoebe Yates Pember (1823–1913) served as a nurse and the first female administrator at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, then one of the largest military hospitals in the world, during the U.S. Civil War. She published her memoirs, A Southern Woman’s Story: Life in Confederate Richmond, in 1879.
