Character description

Ursula Blanchard, later Stannard, is a young widow called to the court of Elizabeth I by William Cecil.   She acts as a secret agent.   Her mother was despised and mistreated by her strongly Catholic relatives for having a child (Ursula) out of wedlock.   This has given Ursula and equally strong preference for Protestantism.  Eventually she learns that her father was Henry VIII.
