Character description

Warren Earl Burger (1907-1995): Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, 1969-1986. He received his law degree magna cum laude in 1931. He joined the Court of Appeals in 1956, then was appointed to the high court by Richard Nixon. He turned the court in a more conservative direction, but was not considered a particularly strong leader of the court; he had difficulty bringing his colleagues with him.
