Character description

William Adams (1) is discussed in Forbidden Fruit. He was a free black who worked as a barber and at odd jobs. Described as approximately 5'10" and fast-talking, he was in Baltimore when he fell in love with a slave, Lear Green. He disappeared, and a week later, Lear Green concealed herself in a chest and was shipped to Philadelphia, with her prospective mother-in-law who was a passenger on the ship. William and Lear lived in Elmire, New York, until her death.
