Description: SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS OF:
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This dystopian story shows what happens when society is drained of individuality by creating a strict class system. If you were a fan of 1949 classic 1984, which also imagined a controlled society, this text is a slightly lighter read, until you get to the end.
The principles behind these divisions arose from the work of industrialist Henry Ford, who is revered as a God. By breaking down work into the assembly-line process, he inspired a movement to make the human race equally efficient. By taking away conflict of any kind by pigeon-holing every decision, the world can now focus on “civilized living.”
First published in 1932, Brave New World’s ideas may rankle against some of the more progressive thoughts of Indigenous and women’s rights. Ironically, Huxley presents these ideas in such a way that the reader sees the absurdity of stereotypes. The writing is clever and quite readable, despite the heavy message hidden within it.

Description: SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS OF:
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Brit Bennett, author of the New York Times bestseller "The Mothers", returns to the scene after a few years with the long-awaited novel "The Vanishing Half". The novel, whose protagonists are the Vignes twins, is more relevant today than ever, as it is not afraid to address social taboos such as racism, domestic violence, xenophobia, the problems of transgender people and other topics that are currently filling out front pages of newspapers.
In the book with an engaging plot, you can follow the story of two twin sisters of black origin, who in early youth each find themselves on different sides of the "coloured spectrum" and end up leading a diametrically different life.
How does the decisions that one of them makes stir the fates of both women and their daughters, and how is it possible to be completely identical and yet so different? The new book Brit Bennett also asks these questions while rippling waters of a turbulent social situation.

Brides of War by Aedan Sayla (Origins of Love Company)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by aedansayla (author): I would love to have your honest review as well as any publicity support you could provide as getting the word out about the reality of there being Erotica that is actually Bible based/structured it is surprisingly hard to get noticed. So if you like what you read and you have a way to help, please do.

Description: War has come and gone. In the span of only half a day almost two hundred million people have been wiped from existence. Only one vestige of a past that many wished to extinguish entirely remains, The Ark of Wanel. The pride of its nation, a nation now burnt to brick even as the ashes of its citizenry and forests float about on the breeze. What can be done when the world at large would rather cover over a genocide, then uncover the plot to eliminate an entire people?

For the survivors manning the last ship in the fleet there can only be one goal - survive. Live to see another day so that one day, when time has fulfilled its test of past misdeeds done a new generation resurgent in the ways of the old beliefs can once more return to exact the justice that their forefathers were denied.

There’s only one glaring problem though for the man left in charge of one nation’s last hope of manifest destiny. The odds of winning such a futuristic war for justice will never happen if he doesn’t rediscover the ways of the past and submit to the reality that without women there can be no future path to survival. The more women there are, the better the odds will be, at least that’s the idea anyway. Beginning a family in the heart of the apocalypse was never supposed to be easy and yet there is no more important time to be fruitful and multiply, especially when you’re the last of your kind.

Warning:
This erotic romance story is unique, in that it features the use of Biblical allegory as well as Biblical standards of societal conduct translated over into a futuristic fantasy environment. If you are easily offended by straight heterosexual sex, lovingly secure masculine male heroes, women who don’t get in the way of their own happiness, and honestly well written sexy plot lines then you should probably read this book. While life remains there’s always a chance to get back onto the path that won’t disappoint in the end.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir is a must read for the politically focused who want an insider look at the workings of the current administration. Trump has always been highly controversial as a President and knowing the inner workings of the White House does not limit this controversy. Beyond this, the book itself is considered controversial because of both the writer and information contained within. In fact, the book was the reason Bolton was almost called to testify in Trump’s impeachment hearing. However, as stated in the book, Bolton informed on Trump to the House Committee over certain decisions that had been handled in ways that may not have been appropriate.
Though tweets, paraphrased conversations, and meeting places were revealed in the book, it does not necessarily come across as controversial, though it may walk the line in many aspects. The content is not necessarily a slap in the face of the President, but it may not paint him in a favorable light to some. A must read for those into the political and governmental realms, this book will clarify information that has only been given in bits and pieces on the new circuits. Be part of the controversy and enjoy this book as soon as possible.

Offered by MLundqvist: Book is given away by the author.

Audiobook version also available. Send an email to martinlundqvistauthor@gmail.com for you audiobook code.

Description: Being reborn in the 21st century, Sabina must stop the apocalypse from happening in the 29th century.

Sabina Saves the Future is a trilogy of novellas, following the adventurous and supernaturally gifted Sabina Hines, as she travels the world and uncovers various nefarious conspiracies.
Sabina’s Pursuit of the Holy Grail

Sabina is a gifted 18-year-old girl living in Sydney, in the year 2037. She carries a unique secret. Sabina used to be the Chosen One, but she failed to stop the apocalypse from occurring in the year 2887. As she died, she asked The True Maker to let her be reborn in 2019 and to keep her powers.
After narrowly escaping being raped by the spoiled brat Joshua Harkins, Sabina has an epiphany: That it is time for her to set out on her mission to find the Primordial Zeto Crystal, also known as the Holy Grail.

Sabina's quest takes her to Jerusalem where evil men are after the Holy Grail for their own nefarious purposes. Facing the conspirators, Sabina sets out on a dangerous quest to find and purify the magical artefact, and to stop it from falling into the wrong hands.

But stopping evil is not an easy task, and what sacrifices must Sabina make to reach her goal. Will Sabina be able to retain her innocence throughout the ordeal?
Sabina’s Quest to Open the Portal
Having secured the Zeto Crystal, Sabina must choose between love and duty.

Sabina’s Quest to Open the Portal takes place straight after the ending of Sabina’s Pursuit of the Holy Grail. Mentally and physically scarred from her ordeal in Israel, Sabina finds solace in the handsome and empathetic Alexander O’Neill, and she experiences romantic love for the first time.
With the Zeto Crystal de-energised Sabina focuses on her relationship with Alex and raising funds for charity.
Life is good for Sabina until one day when a new enemy emerges, which forces her to go to Mexico on the brink of civil war and face the difficult choice between love and duty.
Sabina’s Expedition to Stop the Apocalypse
After many ordeals, Sabina faces her nemesis, Rangda. But will Sabina overcome the evil that she tries to stop?

Having survived the civil war in Mexico, and having stopped Pierre Beaumont’s evil scheme, Sabina and Alex are recuperating in Hawaii.

Peace doesn’t last for long though, as the mysterious Martin Al-Sham re-emerges. His associates kidnap Alex, to force Sabina to help Martin with a dangerous expedition.
Martin reveals that he has found a way to re-energise the Zeto Crystal, and that he needs Sabina to fulfil her destiny.
Together they travel to Kiribati. First, they must scale an active volcano, before Sabina can swim down to the Sunken Pyramid of Kiribati, where the portal to the Divine Dimension is located.

Eventually, Sabina reaches Rangda, but will she be able to carry out her mission, or will she become the very evil that she tried to stop?

Runner Mack by Barry Beckham (Beckham Publications Group)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by pushkin319 (publisher): Considered the first novel about baseball by a black author, Runner Mack is a major work of the 1960s militant black arts movement.

This pdf ebook version is offered with the request that you post new reviews to revive its early fame, referred to in a July 26 NYTBR article.

Nominated for the 1972 National Book Award, Runner Mack is Barry Beckham's second novel, and continues his predilection for surreal and dreamlike stylistic touches. At the same time, Runner Mack has its radical themes exploring racism in symbolic and even comic tones.

Enthusiastic reviews include the following:

"Beckham is a masterful writer, and his novel is an emblem of contemporary black frustration." -- Library Journal

"In Runner Mack, Barry Beckham plays handball with the heart, a savagely controlled game. Beckham is already a most valuable player." -- John Leonard, The New York Times

"Absolutely compelling…" -- Kirkus Reviews

"This story of an aspiring black baseball player is skillfully written and richly imaginative." --The New York Times Book Review

Description: Runner Mack is the compelling story of young Henry Adams' road to self-discovery through his encounter and friendship with Runner Mack, a self-styled black militant.

Rich with metaphor and symbolism, the novel portrays the "grand old game" of baseball as the symbol of America–for whites, a sanctuary where the American dream is a reality, for blacks, a nightmarish world filled with pain, chaos, and frustration.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by mwchase (author): I am giving away copies of Battle-Train Siege in exchange for reviews. I prefer reviews on the book's page on Amazon.com, but you may also put the review on Goodreads and here on LibraryThing. Thank you kindly in advance.

Description: A bounty hunter with a price on his head, Davrick Caliburn must evade the sorcerous reach of the Grand Imperium. Never mind the fact that his new employer is a vampiric blood-baroness—she’s promised him a pocket full of coins and a one-way ticket out of the occupied city of Kardre. The only problem: that “ticket” is aboard an Imperium battle-train.

Joining forces with a dandy-dressed astral mage, a maladroit gearmeister, and an ill-tempered thief, the team will storm the battle-train to pilfer an ancient dragon stone powerful enough to turn the tide of war. But between the killer automatons, elite enemy troops, and the fiendish sorcerer who leads them, Davrick can only wonder what kind of a mess he’s gotten himself into this time. And what does a master vampire want with a mythical dragon stone anyway?

"Battle-Train Siege" is the first novella of the six-part Siege Chronicles. It is a fantasy steampunk action-adventure. There is fighting with swords, guns, and explosions, but it is not depicted in a gory way. There is little profanity (PG level) and no sexual content. Being a novella, this is a shorter work, coming in at about 26,000 words.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by mpershad (author): I am excited to share my debut book with you! I think that humanity has the potential to achieve something amazing the coming decades. But I also think that we will have to overcome a number of great challenges to enable that potential future. In this book, I share my vision for what we can achieve and how I think entrepreneurial thinking focused on solving humanity's problems will help us get there.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts on these ideas and on my writing!

Description: What does it take to build startups that fundamentally change the world? And of the startups that attempt to create this change, what separates those who succeed from those who fall short?

In Cultivated Abundance: How We Can Build a Better Future through Transformative Technology Entrepreneurship, serial entrepreneur Mihir Pershad challenges common Silicon Valley wisdom. Drawing on insights from The Good Food Institute, Effective Altruism, and Impossible Foods, Pershad argues that truly transformative startups need to follow a new playbook—one that takes into account the long-term effects of their decisions.

In Cultivated Abundance, you’ll learn how to...

  • identify a Big Intractable Problem to solve,
  • develop a startup to maximize your impact on that problem, and
  • increase your startup’s chance of success with a tried and tested methodology.

Pershad notes, “What the most ambitious people do with their lives matters.” Whether you’re looking to tackle climate change, food scarcity, water shortages, or any other massive problem, you can use this book as a tool to create positive change in the world through entrepreneurship.

Conversational Dutch Dialogues: Over 100 Dutch Conversations and Short Stories by Lingo Mastery

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by kekmaw (publisher): Please notice that this is a giveaway for a REVIEW COPY of the EBOOK version of this title.

Description: Is conversational Dutch turning a little too tricky for you?

Do you have no idea how to order a meal or book a room at a hotel?

If your answer to any of the previous questions was ‘Yes’, then this book is for you!

If there’s even been something tougher than learning the grammar rules of a new language, it’s finding the way to speak with other people in that tongue. Any student knows this – we can try our best at practicing, but you always want to avoid making embarrassing mistakes or not getting your message through correctly.

‘How do I get out of this situation?’ many students ask themselves, to no avail, but no answer is forthcoming.
    Until now.

We have compiled MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED conversational Dutch stories for beginners along with their translations, allowing new Dutch speakers to have the necessary tools to begin studying how to set a meeting, rent a car or tell a doctor that they don’t feel well. We’re not wasting time here with conversations that don’t go anywhere: if you want to know how to solve problems (while learning a ton of Dutch along the way, obviously), this book is for you!

    How Conversational Dutch Dialogues works:
    • Each new chapter will have a fresh, new story between two people who wish to solve a common, day-to-day issue that you will surely encounter in real life.
    • An Dutch version of the conversation will take place first, followed by an English translation. This ensures that you fully understood just what it was that they were saying.
    • Before and after the main section of the book, we shall provide you with an introduction and conclusion that will offer you important strategies, tips and tricks to allow you to get the absolute most out of this learning material.
    • That’s about it! Simple, useful and incredibly helpful; you will NOT need another conversational Dutch book once you have begun reading and studying this one!

We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles!

So look no further! Pick up your copy of Conversational Dutch Dialogues and start learning Dutch right now!

Essentialized. by Froid Psoid (Kevin Focke)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by KevinFocke (publisher): I'm giving away the book in exchange for your honest review.

    It's a most idiosyncratic book.

    Description: Sex. Psychology. Peculiarity. Essentialized.

A bawdy and exciting tale introducing a grand new psychological theory to explore the concepts of sado-masochism, hyper-essentialization, the proliferation of intermediation, and the unbinding of the bundled, to showcase the pitfalls of human happiness, machine learning, mathematical models, and more, painstakingly decorated in ornate language to please the aesthetic, emotional, spiritual, and rational sensibilities, for make benefit a gloriously flawed society.

Psoid Froid is not like other philosophers… He has been compared to an opinionated drunk rambling in the pub. Often, he sounds absolutely mental; the kind of crazy that makes you think: Perhaps, he's right. Or, he's just an absolute nutjob.

He claims that happiness is only a symptom, that life is a see-saw, and that there are too many hands in front of mommy.

Furthermore, this book has also inspired the sumptuous music of the Broken Kintsugi Trilogy. (Pax Eudaemonia, Thralls Of Technology, Zoa Constrictor)

    Without further ado, here be:

    Psoid Froid's psycho-philosophical comedy.

Dfurstane's Spiritual Beliefs by Erwin K. Thomas (Erwin K Thomas, Ph.D.)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by erwinkennythomas (author): Enter to win one of fifty copies of Dfurstane's Spiritual Beliefs PDF by Erwin K Thomas. This book represents the author's spiritual views. Your review will be most appreciated.

Description: People are the product of their culture. Profoundly their beliefs are shaped by the way they were raised. And many are bound together by strong family ties. They are taught from an early age how to view the world, behave, and what’s right and wrong. Since they are from different cultures their experiences may differ, still there will exist some commonalities in their belief systems. To very many people religion is an early teacher concerning how they are raised and valued. Most of these believers belong to one of the major faith traditions – Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and some are secular humanists. Yet the influence of Judaism that’s comparatively small with its number of adherents has greatly influenced the monotheistic faiths of Christianity and Islam. But seeking has moved this original Anglican believer to become religious literate, and in formulating what’s described as a Dfurstane’s Spiritual Beliefs.

Bell Hammers: The True Folk Tale of Little Egypt by Lancelot Schaubert

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by lanceschaubert (author): Giving away 50 digital copies.

Description: PRANKS. OIL. PROTEST. JOKES BETWEEN NEWLYWEDS.

AND ONE HILARIOUS SIEGE OF A MAJOR CORPORATION.

Remmy grows up with Beth in Bellhammer, Illinois as oil and coal companies rob the land of everything that made it paradise. Under his Grandad, he learns how to properly prank his neighbors, friends, and foes. Beth tries to fix Remmy by taking him to church. Under his Daddy, Remmy starts the Bell Hammer Construction Company, which depends on contracts from Texarco Oil. And Beth argues with him about how to build a better business. Together, Remmy and Beth start to build a great neighborhood of "merry men" carpenters: a paradise of s’mores, porch furniture, newborn babies, and summer trips to Branson where their boys pop the tops of off the neighborhood’s two hundred soda bottles. Their witty banter builds a kind of castle among a growing nostalgia.

Then one of Jim Johnstone’s faulty Texarco oil derricks falls down on their house and poisons their neighborhood's well.

Poisoned wells escalate to torched dog houses. Torched dog houses escalate to stolen carpentry tools and cancelled contracts. Cancelled contracts escalate to eminent domain. Sick of the attacks from Texaco Oil on his neighborhood, Remmy assembles his merry men:

"We need the world's greatest prank. One grand glorious jest that'll bloody the nose of that tyrant. Besides, pranks and jokes don't got no consequences, right?"

PRAISE FOR LANCELOT SCHAUBERT AND BELL HAMMERS ::

“BELL HAMMERS is written in a style not unworthy of John Kennedy Toole and William Faulkner – the vivid characterization of Southern ethnography commingled with stark, episodic spectacle breathes with the spirit of quintessential Americana. It is a text I would happily assign in an American Novel class and would expect it to yield satisfying discourse alongside works in the canon, whether beside the sardonic prose of Mark Twain or the energetically painful narratives of Toni Morrison.”

    — Dr. Anthony Cirilla

“Schaubert’s words have an immediacy, a potency, an intimacy that grab the reader by the collar and say, ‘Listen, this is important!’ Probing the bones and gristle of humanity, Lancelot’s subjects challenge, but also offer insights into redemption if only we will stop and pay attention.”

    — Erika Robuck, national bestselling author of Hemingway’s Girl

“Myth, regret, the lore of our heritage and the subtle displays of our castes — no one so accurately and imaginatively captures the joys and sorrows of life in the Midwest as Schaubert does here. BELL HAMMERS is a Tree Grows in Brooklyn as told by Gabriel Garcia Marquez if Marquez lived in rural Illinois and only told stories to his grandkids. Seriously a delight to read.”

    — Colby Williams, author of the Axiom Gold Medal winning book Small Town, Big Money

“Loved BELL HAMMERS because Lancelot wrote about people who don’t get written about enough and he did it with humor, compassion, and heart.”

    — Brian Slatterly, author of Lost Everything and editor of The New Haven Review

“I’m such a fan of Lancelot Schaubert’s work. His unique view and his life-wisdom enriches all he does. We’re lucky to count him among our contributors.”

    — Therese Walsh, author of The Moon Sisters and Editorial Director of Writer Unboxed

“Lancelot Schaubert writes with conviction but without the cliché and bluster of the propaganda that is so common in this age of blogs and tweets. Here is a real practitioner of the craft who has the patience to pay attention. May his tribe increase!”

    — Jonathan Wilson Hartgrove, author of Common Prayer and The Awakening of Hope

“Lancelot's attentive, thoughtful, a bit quirky, and innovative. He continues to impress me. He ‘sees,’ and BELL HAMMERS is full of details that enable his audience to see. Bravo, Lance.”

    — Jackina Stark, author of Things Worth Remembering and Tender Grace

“Schaubert’s narratives are emotionally stirring with both a vulnerable sensibility and rawness to them. BELL HAMMERS will take you on a journey full of open wounds, intimate successes and personal delights. Lancelot’s words have a calmness, a natural ease but the meaning is always commanding and dynamic.”

    — Natalie Gee, Brooklyn Film Festival

“BELL HAMMERS is the kind of story that makes you a better person and stays with you long after you put it down."

    — F.C. Shultz, author of The Rose Weapon

Healthy Wealthy & ‘Worthy’ of Success by David Moore

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Mylibrevs (author): This book is available as ebook only in epub, mobi and PDF formats.

I hope you enjoy this book and post a review on Amazon.

Description: ‘If you keep on doing what you have always done – you will keep on getting the results you’ve always got’.

    Q) Do you want to change something about your life?
    Q) Do you feel that your life could be better somehow?
    Q) Do you wish that you had more money, a better job, more time to spend with your loved ones, more control of your life, your relationships, and/or your future prospects?

I have written this book as a simple guide to help you to understand how you can achieve far more from your life simply by looking at your life in a different way in order to take ‘relevant’ and ‘affirmative’ action in order to achieve your goals. I call this a ‘paradigm shift’.

The three pillars of real success are based on firm foundations. We will start by looking at where you are today. We will then take an in-depth look at each of the three pillars: Healthy, Wealthy & Worthy in order to help you to fully understand yourself, your dreams and your desires so that you can shift ‘your’ paradigm, evoke change and achieve whatever it is you want to achieve – without fail!

I hope that you enjoy this book and all that it brings.

Measure For Measure: Redressing The Balance: A Critical Reappraisal Of Shakespeare’s Play by P. S. Miller

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Mylibrevs (author): This book is available as ebook only in epub, mobi and PDF formats.

I hope you enjoy this book and post a review on Amazon.

Description: Measure for Measure has proved unusually controversial since its earliest recorded performance in 1604. Adverse critical judgements and heavily-censored performances established a deep-seated and unjustified prejudice against the play. By redressing the balance, however, we can establish the full value of so much that was unappreciated or underrated for centuries.

This study deploys thorough, impartial analysis of texts and contexts (including detailed reference to the play in performance) to explore possibilities and to suggest alternative interpretations. It concludes that no play in the Shakespearian canon reflects the socio-political conundrums of the Twenty-First Century more comprehensively.

Readers eager to approach Measure for Measure with an open mind, thoroughly exploring its subtleties, challenges, and delights, will encounter plentiful materials here more fully to develop their own conclusions about the play. The eight chapters offer a comprehensive endorsement of Shakespeare’s most frequently—and unfairly—maligned play.

Miss Matched by Shel Delisle (Something Else Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by sheldelisle (author): I would be grateful for any reviews on Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, etc. or social media reading sites, like Goodreads or LibraryThing, for this newly released book. I can supply in a mobi, epub or pdf.

Description: Frederica Brubaker has never had a second date.

As for the reasons—that’s tough for even Freddie to understand. It’s not like she’s a two-headed monster.

Sometimes, she thinks the idea of “dates” is outdated. Sometimes, she’s not sure if her method of counting is remotely legit. Even so, she’ll know when she has one—a second meeting where the chemistry and connection are still strong. Most days, she thinks she has mutated DNA, passed on by her mother Felicity O’Hara, who is on her fourth-possibly-fifth husband, unable to hang on to a man, despite being the star of the reality TV show The Matchmaker.

In the summer following her college graduation, Freddie takes a job on the show as a Production Assistant to make ends meet until she can find a job in her field. She absolutely, positively does not want to be a guest on the show, even if a certain squisito Italian guest has caught her eye. Meanwhile, her mother—a diva since childbirth—has other ideas, which involve finding a second date and the perfect match for Freddie.

Miss Matched is an irresistible, feel-good romantic comedy that will appeal to fans of reality shows like The Bachelor and Love Island.

Cairn by Cameron R. Miller (Unsolicited Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Unsolicitedpress (publisher): We will send you an ebook.

Description: Readers looking for an engaging and spiritual journey will find comfort in Cameron R. Miller's words in his latest book CAIRN: POEMS AND ESSAYS. After decades of reading and ogling poetry, Miller made room among the novels, newspaper columns, and preaching to hone poems amidst the wild beauty of northernmost Vermont and the pastoral beauty of the Finger Lakes. The elements of nature are this poet’s paint but he also paddles a gondola through the dark channels of the mind while lighting the way.

The words themselves are cairns guiding readers on an inward journey. Both poems and essays work on the reader from two directions, the brain down and the ground up. Poems like “I want to be Mary Oliver” seem whimsical at first but quickly instigate a new look at an old subject. Poems that immediately jump into deep water like “Depression,” offer a sense of liberation via blunt and unvarnished authenticity.

Cairn speaks from these two hemispheres of the human experience in a way that aids those who start out with discomfort around poetry. It quickly demonstrates that poetry need not be a strange or inaccessible medium after all.

Elijah Lovejoy's Fight for Freedom by Jennifer Phillips

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by jjpseattle: Recipients can choose between an advanced reader copy (ARC) in PDF or an epub file for reading in Kindle previewer or iBooks. Manuscript is in English.

I am the author and this is the second edition releasing Sept. 1.

    Thanks!

Description: Children's biography for grades 5 and up. 48 pages.

Two decades before the Civil War, Elijah P. Lovejoy used his newspaper to demand an end to slavery - dangerous beliefs that turned deadly as mobs repeatedly destroyed his press and then took his life. Lovejoy’s death turned slavery into a national debate and helped mobilize the abolitionist movement. It also made people more committed to protecting free speech and freedom from punishment by private citizens. As relevant today as when Lovejoy took his stance.

This is the life story of a man who insisted on his constitutional right to speak freely about unpopular subjects and refused to be intimidated by those who would silence him. Just days before his murder, Elijah told a crowd, “Think not that I regret the choice I have made. While all around me is violence and tumult, all is peace within.”

DEMOCRACY: A User's Guide by Joss Sheldon

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Joss_Sheldon (author): The winners will receive an advanced reviewer copy. Reviews are appreciated!

Description: THEY SAY WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY. WE ARE FREE AND WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL.

But just how "Free" are we? How democratic are our so-called "Democracies"?

Is it enough to simply elect our leaders and sit back, helpless, as they rule over us like dictators? What good is selecting our politicians, if we cannot control our media, police or soldiers? If we must blindly follow our teachers' and bosses' commands, whilst at school and in the workplace, is it not a little naïve to believe that we are the masters of our own destinies? And if our resources are controlled by a tiny cabal of plutocrats, bankers and corporations; can we honestly say that our economies are being run for us?

Could things not be a little bit more, well, democratic?

Indeed they can! "Democracy: A User's Guide" shows us how...

Within the pages of this story-filled book, we shall visit Summerhill, a democratic school in the east of England, before stopping off in Brazil to check out Semco, where workplace democracy is the name of the game. We will travel to Rojava, to explore life in a democratic army, and head to Spain, to see why Podemos is giving liquid democracy a go. We shall travel back in time, to see democracy at work in hunter-gatherer societies, tribal confederacies, the guilds and on the commons. We will consider the case for participatory budgeting, deliberative democracy, collaborative hiring, community currencies, peer-to-peer lending, and much much more.

The message is clear and concise: Democracy does not have to be a pipe dream. We have all the tools we need to rule ourselves.

Chasing Social Justice: How Do We Advance the Work that Matters Most? by Laurie Sherman (Maslan House)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by LaurieSherman (publisher): As endorsed by Mike Dukakis, this new book is "just what we need ... at just the right time." Published by a new small publishing house, we'd love to get some exposure by you reading it and considering a review. Take a look!

Description: While deeply meaningful and utterly essential, social justice work can be confounding, raising many complex questions. Why do we take one step forward and then two steps back – on racial justice, the environment, immigration, economic policy, gun control? What can we do to bridge the divides in our increasingly polarized country, beginning with the very language we use? How can nonprofits and public agencies best serve constituents in need, balancing mission with necessities such as marketing (too often dismissed as a luxury)? What lessons from past social justice efforts directly benefit our current work? How do those in justice professions make a sustainable difference, and how do we keep on keeping on?

Chasing Social Justice addresses these questions in an unusually poignant and accessible way, combining lived experience with political analysis, illuminating lessons learned over the past three decades across social justice movements, initiatives, and organizations.

“Don of the Q is a much-needed book in these times. It's relevant, diverse, feminist, and LGBTQ-friendly…In this quick and unputdownable read, the American Quixote and his friends touch hearts while being witty.” - Risah Salazar, Reader’s Favorite Reviews
"highly recommended as an original, involving read that pushes the boundaries of comedy, stormy relationships, and social commentary alike." - D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Reviews.

The Road to Vermilion Lake by Vic Cavalli (Harvard Square Editions)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by VicCavalli (author): If you are interested in romantic literary fiction, enter for a chance to win an eBook copy of The Road to Vermilion Lake. The author will send MOBI and PDF files directly to the winners.

Description: “The novel tells the story of . . . Thomas Neal Tems, a blaster’s assistant and first-aid attendant who lives and works on a construction site beside a glorious, remote lake. The site is being developed by a Swiss company into an ecologically friendly village, and Thomas begins a romance with the talented and imaginative architect who designed the site, a devout Catholic. The world that the characters must navigate, however, is decidedly not a romantic one. It is marked by painful past experiences, dysfunctional families, tragic accidents, alcoholism, and drug overdoses, all of which seem to derive from an inability to reach beyond the superficiality of existence. And yet, this is a world of second chances, for those who desire to change their imaginative perspective, to seek a sense of depth and enchantment that is deeply embedded in the tangible world, particularly in the body and in the natural world, as well as in the creative world of contemplative thought.”
