Kitty's war
Janet Butler, historian and author of Kitty's War: The remarkable wartime experiences of Kit McNaughton, grew up in the same part of regional Victoria as Sister Kit McNaughton, decades apart. Janet was inspired to research and share the story of this young nurse setting out in July 1915 on a journey that would take her across the world and into World War I. Based upon previously unpublished diaries, Kitty’s war offers a rare glimpse of the war through the eyes of a young Australian nurse as she is transformed by what she witnesses. Janet will recount some of Kit’s intimate story. (Chris-86)… (more)

Michael Mori in conversation with Rachel Carbonell
On a beautiful, balmy evening in Cuba in 2007, David Hicks walked out of Guantanamo Bay, in that moment ceasing to be a detainee of the United States and regaining his rights as an Australian citizen. Watching on was the man who had fought for four long years for Hicks' right to go home, Major Michael Mori.

Don’t miss this candid discussion between ABC journalist, Rachel Carbonell and Michael Mori about his book In the company of cowards.

The book will be available for purchase and signing. (Chris-86)

You never met my father
Graeme Sparkes’ father went to fight in Japan a few months after Hiroshima, aged just 18. A few months later he had a psychotic episode and spent the next four months in a Japanese psychiatric hospital. Back in Australia he was responsible for two home sieges which made the front page of newspapers nationally. Join Graeme as he discusses his memoir You never met my father exploring the challenges of growing up in the 50s and 60s with a father who had severe mental illness.

‘...one of Australia’s more vivid memoirs... a wonderfully crafted and pitilessly honest trip behind the doors of his real life... It is a perceptive, sometimes humorous story about the anguish of growing up and not fitting in.’ Tony Wright, The Age (Chris-86)
