Elizabeth George Signs in San Diego
Mysterious Galaxy, Wednesday, May 27 at 6pm
The internationally bestselling author of the award-winning Inspector Thomas Lynley series and hailed by Entertainment Weekly as the “queen of the mystery genre,” Elizabeth George has carried her success over to her paranormal YA series. It all began with The Edge of Nowhere, an Agatha and Edgar finalist for Best YA Novel, followed by The Edge of the Water. Now in the third installment, The Edge of the shadows, Becca King and her friends are wondering if a band of newcomers are responsible for a string of fires around Whidbey Island. Becca is also honing her paranormal abilities, thanks to fellow psychic Diana Kinsale. This suspenseful coming-of-age tale has elements of the paranormal, mystery, and romance for both YA fans and adult readers alike.

Rachel Howzell Hall signs in San Diego
Mysterious Galaxy, Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30pm
Rachel Howzell Hall’s Los Angeles homicide detective Elouise “Lou” Norton returns with Skies of Ash, the second in this critically-acclaimed series set in South Los Angeles which began with Land of Shadows. Lou and her partner, Colin Taggert, investigate a tragic house fire which killed Juliet Chatman and her two kids. The husband, Christopher Chatman, is devastated he couldn’t save them, but Lou suspects otherwise. She sees through the picture-perfect family façade, although her colleagues suspect her own marital troubles could be clouding her judgment. Kirkus Reviews praises Hall’s second in the series, saying the author “outdoes her stellar debut in an exploration of vile secrets that pays homage to that earlier master of complex California homicide, Raymond Chandler.”

Brandon Webb - "Among Heroes"
Warwick's, Thursday, May 28 at 7:30pm
Warwick's is proud to be hosting former Navy SEAL and New York Times author of The Red Circle, Brandon Webb on Thursday, May 28th at 7:30pm to talk about and sign his newest book, Among Heroes. This event is free and open to the public. Reserved Seating is available. Only books purchased from Warwick's will be signed. Please call the Warwick's Book Dept. (858) 454-0347 for details. As a Navy SEAL, Brandon Webb rose to the top of the world’s most elite sniper corps, experiencing years of punishing training and combat missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. Among the best of the best, he led the SEALs’ clandestine sniper training program as course manager after September 11, as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were heating up, instructing a new generation of the world’s top snipers. Along the way Webb served beside, trained, and supported men he came to know not just as fellow warriors, but as friends.

Among Heroes is Webb’s poignant tribute to the remarkable valor and abiding humanity of those “sheep dogs” (as they call themselves) who protect us from the wolves of the world. These include the story of Matt “Axe” Axelson, who perished on the Lone Survivor mission in Afghanistan. He shares the heroism of Chris Campbell, Heath Robinson, and JT Tumilson, who were among the thirty-eight casualties of Extortion-17, the Chinook helicopter shot down in August 2011. With the book nearly finished, Webb didn’t expect to have to include the legacy of Glen Doherty, his best friend for more than a decade, killed while helping secure the successful rescue and extraction of American CIA and State Department diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012.

Steve Martini signs in San Diego
Mysterious Galaxy, Friday, May 29 at 7:30pm
Guest host Laura Akers, Attorney-at-Law, will help MGSD welcome best-selling author Steve Martini for The Enemy Inside – his 13th Paul Madraini legal thriller. In a recent article, Publishers Weekly remarked on Steve’s background: “Martini brings a diverse professional background to his books, having served as an administrative law judge and supervising hearing officer, as a legislative representative for the State Bar of California, and as special counsel to the California Victims of Violent Crimes Program.” Compressing time so a lengthy trial fits within the pages of a novel can be difficult, Martini says, but “one way to float the story is with humor. Funny things happen in courtrooms. The novelist who can exploit them in realistic fashion in fiction and do it with flair often has a winning formula. Being accurate about the legal system is important, but when good fiction dictates that this may not be possible, a good laugh may cover your sleight of hand when you are forced to take some liberty.”

This is a numbered event – numbers for the signing line are free with the purchase of The Enemy Inside from Mysterious Galaxy, available May 12th, starting at 10 AM!

If you are planning to attend the event, please do not place your order through the web site as all such orders are processed after the event. Instead, please come by or call the store and purchase the book on or after the on-sale date.

Matt Coyle Signs in San Diego
Mysterious Galaxy, Saturday, May 30 at 2pm
Mysterious Galaxy was thrilled to be part of the Bouchercon 2014 book room last fall when San Diego’s own Matt Coyle won the Anthony Award for Best First Novel for Yesterday’s Echo. La Jolla PI Rich Cahill is drawn to investigate an eight-year-old case for a young male convict serving time at San Quentin. Publishers Weekly cautions, “Most PIs are hypercompetent and tough, but Cahill is fallible and painfully vulnerable—he keeps on trying to do the right thing. Readers should be prepared for a morally ambiguous ending to this sobering crime novel.”

Listen to Matt talk about his new work at Authors on the Air.
