About meLink to ErinPaperbackstash's 2018 Reading Thread
Link to my 2017 Carnival Reading Thread

My ratings are based on my enjoyment and not on checklist merit.

Receiving packages of new books with shiny covers is one kind of bliss, finding hidden surprises hunting in the used book aisle another. I'm a compulsive book buyer/collector. I also love collecting bookmarks (especially magentic) and anything associated with reading, including bookish tote bags.

Besides curling up listening to the rain with a book in my hand, a cup of hot tea and chocolate at my side, I'm obsessed with music. Books and music make my world soar.

About my libraryParanormal fan & series junkie.

I currently own over 2500 books and a few hundred ebooks.

Mainly genre fiction, but variety gives spice.

Fiction:

Fantasy - Mainly Urban Fantasy (my #1 read past few years), but also Dark and High. I am newer to High/Epic types but have hope I'll enjoy them as I keep exploring.

Drama, General Fiction, Literature

Mysteries and Crime - Occult Detective; Love cozies (especially those that are themed with paranormal, books, or cooking); Hard Case Crime; Noir; Golden Age; some Psychological Crime if done effectively, especially Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series; haven't read much Hard-boiled but I enjoy when done well. Hercule Poirot is my favorite detective, overbearing mustache, quirks and all.

Horror and Suspense/Thriller

Romance - I've always had a soft spot for the vintage offerings from the Harlequin Presents line. The past few years I've had fun with M/M Romance, mainly paranormal and historical stuff, but a few contemp as well. I've been known to pick up some Historical full-lengths, but rarely chic-lit type contemporary. Even though I enjoy UF, I'm very picky with PR.

I randomly read novels based on Superhero legend, as well as the occasional graphic novel (didn't get into comics until later in life.) I'm mainly a Superman fan, but enjoy most things DC. I enjoy some of Marvel too of course, especially The X-Men.

I read mainly Adult, but sometimes I'll read YA and middle school. I don't consider these genres.

Themes I enjoy that are genre-related: Dystopian, Apocalyptic, Post-Apocalyptic, Coming-Of-Age

Non-Fiction:

The past few years I've found myself enjoying Autobiographies and Memoirs.

In my early 20's I went through a phase of reading (and sometimes reviewing) a large amount of Herbals and natural health books.

Other Non-fiction is completely random, whatever looks interesting for whatever reason.

I like introspective points of view, happy endings, twist endings, dark themes, fascinating characters who are 'different', 3-dimensional villains and heroes, limited head hopping, beautiful writing, deep meanings, psychological mindplay, antiheroes, and extended wrap-ups after conflict.

I dislike genre snobbery, cheap cliffhangers, instalove, triangles, bitchy heroines, melodramatic dialogue, dry/distant writing, heartbreak, B&W Mains, these themes: time-travel; angel-fiction; amnesia; prison; missing kids-kidnapping stories. Spoilers Are Evil.
