About meMy home is in Hong Kong. I was educated here and in England. I am a lawyer by profession. I practiced at the Bar and served as Chief Justice of Hong Kong. I am now retired.

My family has been in racing for a few generations. A number of my relatives have served on the Board of Stewards of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (including one as Chairman and another as Deputy Chairman) and have owned horses.

I myself served on the Board of Stewards between 1988 and 1997. I stepped down in 1997 when I was appointed Chief Justice of Hong Kong. I am an Honorary Steward and own horses in Hong Kong and New Zealand.

About my libraryThe Andrew Li Collections consists essentially of books on flat horseracing. There are no books on fiction and no record books such as race records and sales catalogues.

Having regard to my passion for the sport of horseracing, I greatly enjoy reading books on the subject. I learn a great deal from them. Indeed, it makes me fully understand the truth of the maxim: The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

A substantial part of the collection consists of biographies: of horses, jockeys, trainers, owners and breeders and other racing personalities. There are also books on the great races such as the English Derby, the Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe and the Melbourne Cup. There are many inspiring stories told in these books: of hopes and dreams, of failure and success. In racing, as in life, one has to dream and dare. Success requires hard work, patience, courage and determination.
