- About Me
I started reading in 8th grade with Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series; after which, I was completely hooked. I devoured anything I could get my hands on (provided it was either Adventure, Science-Fantasy or a Western ... and it had a happy ending). At one point, I was reading 2 novels a day from the nearly 1000 books in my parents' basement ... all of it pure escapist trash according to my High School English Lit. Teacher :)~
The rest of my school time was spent scuba diving, playing soccer, and Offshore Yacht Racing ... somehow I managed to pick up an engineering degree on the way ... which I have never used. After graduation, I swapped the sailboat for an icebreaker headed into the pack ice of Antarctica. One summer in the ‘Deep Freeze’ and I decided to drift back over to the East Coast for duty in the Caribbean. After a year as a distinguished soldier in our nation’s ‘War on Drugs,’ I jumped ship for the driver’s seat of a brand new Blackhawk helicopter (HH-60J). After four years of that, I started looking for some place where I could ditch the body armor I was now accustom to wearing. Fortunately, my wife and I had the same idea for the ultimate destination; we were headed North … to Alaska. For the next 4 years, I flew Search and Rescue missions out of Kodiak AK. Suddenly, most of my sea stories began with these words: “It was a dark and stormy winter’s night …” Add to this a new daughter and a few intense conversations with my creator and it just wasn’t fun any more.
Now I am a Computer Consultant on the North shore of Boston.
