About meAnglophile teacher from Germany who loves traveling, reads many genres and is still trying to get her library in order.

I discovered LibraryThing and entered all of my library in 2012, and I kept track of all new acquisitions for some years, but one day lost control. After moving in with my fiancé in April 2019 I am now entering all of my books that are missing, plus all of his books (not as many as mine, but he is a keen reader and has quite a collection as well). I'm also re-organizing my virtual shelves and checking every book regarding the cover, authors and other details, trying to get a fresh overview and creating more useful tags. It's a very slow process that will take a couple of years, but I'm enjoying it tremendously!

As is the case with many other LibraryThing members, my books are mostly rated very well because I usually select quite carefully what I read.

About my libraryMy collection is a wild mix of genres and topics, but I mainly read classics, crime novels, travel literature, historic fiction and fantasy, plus a little bit of nonfiction on different topics.

My main interests are:
British classics, esp. woman writers - I wrote my final thesis on George Eliot and the Brontës
German classics, esp. Romanticism and Bourgeois Realism
Postcolonial literature
Australia, Scotland and the British Isles in general
Travel (anything and anywhere!)
Middle-earth - anything by or about J.R.R. Tolkien!
Medieval Studies

We own all the books in "My Library", and I still own all the books in the collection "Read in childhood". I created that collection to distinguish the books I owned and read as a child from the children's literature I acquired later, for my job or because of personal interest.

I have created a separate collection called "Other media" that includes CDs, DVDs and also digital copies or streamed content - mostly book-related. I include films and soundtracks if they have a literary aspect (such as screen versions and adaptations of novels I have read, bio pics about authors etc). Other films are not included unless they deal with a topic I‘m particularly interested in or I use them in my lessons.

My collections include the authors and places most important to me, and apart from that they reflect the major genres I read and the topics that I think are most important. I also use a ton of tags. This is one thing I love about LibraryThing: To see at a glance which books we have, and to sort through them in various ways. While my real shelves are finally well organized after our move, LibraryThing has proved invaluable when looking for something specific or needing an overview.

As we are both teachers, I also use LibraryThing to organize the books we use for our job, at least the ones we own and keep at home.

Although I am not very active in the forums, I feel like LibraryThing is my calm heaven in the noisy and hectic times of social media, and for sure the very best website for bibliophiles! If you have any questions about the books in my collection, feel free to drop me a line :-)
