About meI have been a part of the Otherkin/therian community for about 15 years now, and my primary interests lie in the study of anthrozoology (human-animal studies), cognitive ethology, posthumanism and philosophy of the animal. I have created this archive to catalogue books I've come across during my research or own that I believe would be useful for the community. This catalogue will also include the recommended works of others as I receive suggestions.

About me: I am known as "Nøkken" in the community. I work as a professional violinist, as a session musician, recording artist, soloist and educator. I am the lead violinist of the band "Nøkken + the Grim" based in Austin. I also direct the new music ensemble "The Auricle Chamber" with my partner. When I am not performing or teaching, I work as a digital artist and writer. I did a BA in philosophy and a BM in violin performance, as well as a diploma in interdisciplinary studies. Aside from all of that, I am conducting independent research on the Otherkin/therian community in order to cultivate new critical perspectives and help the community I know and love grow. I hope that individuals will find inspiration to build to culture and discourse of the Otherkin/therian community.

About my libraryThis collection is primarily to serve as a resource on academic literature for the Otherkin/therian community addressing the issues of nonhuman-human and animal-human identities, but it also includes fiction and works of entertainment value. The comments section in the book lists will be updated to form something of an annotated bibliography offering a brief summary of themes and relevancy to the Otherkin/therian community. I will also include comments from others who have provided book recommendations for the list as I receive them.

Alongside texts that directly address issues pertaining to nonhuman-human identity, I also provide resources that could serve as avenues for self-exploration and inspiration of new thought as well as useful general reference works.

I distinguish between books that are owned and part of my physical collection and those I have not yet acquired.

I also distinguish between highly relevant and less relevant texts, as well as books that may be of literary or entertainment interests to Otherkin.

Many texts that are listed as relevant are so because they offer modes of thought and schools of philosophy that are amenable to understanding Otherkin nonhuman identity or through understanding the relationships between human beings and nonhuman animals and the natural world.

It is understood that Otherkin has no general theories in mainstream culture and academia, and therefore it falls upon the responsibilities of members of the community to help build critical resources adapted from various philosophical, psychological and spiritual traditions.

If you have comments or concerns or would like to recommend a work that is not listed here, please send me a message.

If you have book suggestions for those that are not included in the list, please message me anywhere and include

1) Full title, author, publisher and date of publication

2) A statement of what the book is about.

3) A statement of why you think it is relevant to the Otherkin community (including how relevant, there is a section for more and less relevant books.)

4) If you would like to be credited with the review in the annotation and what name to credit.

Also please feel free to message me about any fiction books or those with entertainment value that you think Otherkin/therians would enjoy. I have a section for non-academic books and fiction as well, which includes novels, poetry, graphic novels, comics, etc.
