About My Library
My library mainly consists of American genealogy and history. I have collected books for over forty years, and the act of collecting has grown with new additions almost weekly. The colonial period to the Revolutionary War to the federal period, and the Civil War are all topics sitting on the shelves. I also have several antique school books, early machinery books or manuals, old maps, church histories, cemetery lists, and family histories live in the library. Old cookbooks are a favorite and a great many other subjects. My interest over the years has broadened but mainly dwells in the past.
About Me
I have been reading and collecting books since I was a kid in school. My passion for the words upon a page enlightens me to new adventures, and the journey continues daily. I became involved with local history and genealogy at a young age. This yearning of the past mainly transpired from a book report assignment given to me by my 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Tatum, and has grown tremendously over the years. My research, spanning forty years, has enabled the past to be opened and viewed in the present among family histories, local histories and expanding to include all American history. I share my research concerning genealogy and history through a blog entitled Piedmont Trails. By doing this, I have initiated projects to preserve history for the future. The Great Wagon Road Project includes intense research concerning the earliest migration pattern occurring in North America. The Colonial Indentured Servants Project brings forward the voices of indentured servants and their way of life from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Yadkin Valley Railroad Project recognizes the oldest existing railroad in North Carolina. Each project contains the same goal of preserving history and genealogy.
The colonial period is my favorite timeline as I am fascinated by the colonial way of life, the people, the early settlements, the early roads, the customs, and traditions. The Civil War years also demand my attention, and I have collected numerous materials on both periods over the years. I originally started with genealogy, and this encompasses the bulk of my library and files.
