- About My Library
- Physical layout: The general church library collection is located upstairs off the hallway from the lobby, while the Georgia School of Preaching and Biblical Studies collection is downstairs near the back entrance. Books shelved downstairs have GSOP before the rest of the call number and are mainly religious in nature. The upstairs library is staffed before and after church services. See the librarian if you need access to the GSOP collection.
Our Collection: As a church library, our collection focuses on the Bible, biblical reference materials such as commentaries, and Christian books. In addition to the physical books and bound Christian periodicals in our library, we have also provided links to some electronic books available on the Internet. We have a nice collection of works from the Restoration Movement (also known as the Stone-Campbell Movement), many of them available as free ebooks.
Nonfiction: We organize our nonfiction materials with the Dewey Decimal (DDC)system, like many school and public libraries. Over 80% of our items are within the 200s, religion classification. You will find Bibles, commentaries, and biblical reference materials in the DDC 220s, theology in the 230s, devotional works and Christian living in the 240s, sermons in the 250s, worship, missions, and Christian education in the 260s, Christian history in the 270s, materials specific to particular churches, denominations, and sects in the 280s, and other religions in the 290s. When materials have the same DDC number, we arrange them alphabetically by the author’s last name or the title.
Fiction & Biography: We have a small collection of Christian fiction which is classed in FIC and the first three letters of the author's last name. Our biographies are classed by the Dewey subject, such as New Testament people in 225.92, or particular members of the church in 286.6309.
Children's Books: Those books marked with a J before the call number are for "juveniles" aged birth to pre-teens. Parents will find Bible storybooks and board books for the youngest children and Bible encyclopedias, atlases, and nonfiction for older children. We also have a good collection of E (Easy) fiction books for children.
Audiovisual Resources: Watch for the numerical call number to mark location with CD for digital audio discs, CDR for computer software files (on CD-ROM media), DDVD for data DVD (which must be used in a computer), and DVD for video.
Electronic Resources: We provide links to electronic resources for some items for which we have physical copies. For these materials, the web address (or URL) of the resource appears in the “Local notes” section. You do not need to check out electronic resources. Just click the link or copy and paste the link into your browser to access the material. You can download many of these resources for free.
