- About My Library
- I started writing down what books I read back when I was in high school. Once I got access to computers, having degrees in Computer Science and working with databases, I set up a book database and started entering my book data, though I never included dates or number of times read. In 2008 I joined Shelfari and began gradually transferring my book information (2500+ at that point) there. I managed to keep up with entering what I'm currently reading, and what I buy, but I'm still working on updating everything. When Shelfari's outlook became unclear, I explored other options. The new site Leafmarks looked interesting, and the import worked well, so I moved everything there but LM, like GoodReads, uses shelves instead of tags and I didn't like the input interface as much as Shelfari, so with Shelfari and then Leafmarks shutting down, I decided to try LibraryThing and it appears to be a much better match for what I want to do with a book collection/cataloging/discussion site.
While cleaning up some old computer files, I found some book reviews I had written for the SF fanzine OtherRealms between 1989 and 1992. I've added them to the book entries here. I'm still getting all the books from my original database into my collections, slowly.
September 2021 update - I've finally finished entering my book database information here, except for about 20 books that I didn't have enough information to identify within LibraryThing. Most were library books I read decades ago, mystery or SF anthologies with generic names like "Tales of Mystery" or "Mythology". The few that I know I physically have, I'll try to locate so that I can enter them manually. - About Me
- I'm a science fiction, fantasy and mystery fan. Since all three of those genres include lots of series, I always have more on my "plan to read" pile. Lately I've been reading several Medieval mystery series and lots of knitting books. Plus, there are always more Star Trek and Doctor Who novels than I could hope to keep up with.
I've been trying to get back up to reading more than 50 books a year, tracking them as goals on Shelfari, and I finally made it with 52 in 2015. I added a personal challenge in Sept. 2015 - seeing how many of my backlog of Star Trek books I can get read by the 50th anniversary in Sept. 2016. I read over a dozen, but that didn't do much to cut down the backlog. And now (2018) Target has started publishing Doctor Who episode novelizations again. Since I have all of the original 150+, I've started buying the new series as well. - Location
