About meI am an elementary school teacher in St. Petersburg, Florida, currently in the process of obtaining my master's degree in LIS at Florida State University. Go 'Noles! The last time I took a children's literature class was during my undergrad coursework at Ohio University. I read all the Caldecott Award winning books to date and critiqued them. It was a lot of work, but I thoroughly enjoyed the books. I currently use children's literature in my fifth grade classroom to teach standards in the content areas, to help my students understand math concepts, and for enjoyment. I also choose a group to focus on the Sunshine State Young Readers Award list of books, as those are the books used for our statewide reading competition, the Battle of the Books.

My favorite children's author/illustrator is Eric Carle. His illustrations are unique and intriguing. My favorite author as a young adult was Carolyn Keene. My friends and I loved the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories and read and exhanged them constantly! As far as current authors for intermediate students, there are just too many good ones to pick a favorite (although I love Charlotte's Web and therefore, E.B White). After reading The Tale of Despereaux, I am definitely leaning toward Kate DiCamillo as my new favorite author. What a cleverly written book!

About my libraryMy library at school consists of award winning books and other teacher read-alouds for sharing with my fifth graders, and at home, loads of cookbooks!
