About meI'm a book lover, just like everyone else on Library Thing!

I'm also on Litsy, @ValerieAndBooks.

About my libraryI read just about everything!

Although my library shows a high percentage of mysteries, it isn't a genre that I read regularly now. But, a good one now and then does hit the spot. I can't bear to get rid of my Agatha Christie paperback collection that I amassed years ago while I was in college (the first time around)! I feel like I missed out getting to read and appreciate literature back in the ancient college years, because I had gotten a science degree. Some time ago, I went back to school and earned an Associate in Arts degree focusing on studio arts and art history.

Generally, I lean towards reading literary fiction, classics, and non-fiction (especially history and art history). I usually don't read new releases right away (especially if I suspect it's been highly hyped).

Incidentally, I am Deaf, so I'm always interested in how Deaf characters are depicted in fiction.

I love used bookstores. Therefore, I sometime find that when I review a book here, it may be one of just a few (or even the only one) for that book. I like making that kind of contribution!

Sometimes I'm fortunate enough to get a LibraryThing ER copy, then that way I do get a chance to read something that's "new".

My TBR (to-be-read) that I own, if all put together in one stack, would be about twice as tall as I am -- perhaps even more! This TBR is included in my library under the "to read" category (to clarify: all books in my LT library are books I own, unless I forget to delete ones I've given away).

In October 2016, I embarked on a birthday challenge (idea borrowed from another reader), in which I intend to chronologically read a book from each year I've been alive. This explains the category that is called "birthday challenge". I need to get back to this project.

Other personal reading challenges are "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die" (Not all books I own within this category may be tagged). I'll never get to them all in time, but it's fun trying.

I have recently created a new category within my catalog, "Dad's Library". My dad passed away in September 2018, and since then I have been given several of his books (most of the rest in his library have gone to others). Some of his titles I already have -- therefore didn't take, but regardless those are now also tagged as "Dad's Library". I wish I had thought to catalog his entire library before it was split up. But it's the memories that really counts :-) .
