About My Library
My library, once it is completed here on LibraryThing, will reflect wide-ranging interests in the classics of English literature, poetry, history, historical fiction, science, travel, mystery/detection fiction, and miscellaneous fiction in other genres by authors I particular like. I occasionally read fantasy or science fiction, but don't consider that an area of concentration for my library.

A few words about what books I have in my catalog. In addition to the obvious ones, the ones I currently own, I also keep in my catalog books I once owned but donated or discarded after I read them. In this latter group are only books I have read since starting my LT catalog, so that the edition information is as correct as I can make it. There are also a few books I have borrowed and read since beginning my LT catalog, these coming from friends and family.

Some acronyms relating to reading and disposition of books used in tags. If I've given a rating (stars), I've read at least a portion of the book. Eventually I'll get around to assigning one of the following tags to all rated books. Note that books read too long ago for me to remember in detail won't receive a star rating unless I re-read them.

RRK - read recently (past few years) and kept
PRK - previously read and kept
DAR - donated or discarded after reading (usually given for recently read books only)
DNFB - did not finish because it was too bad to waste time on
DNFG - did not finish for other reasons, but was good enough possibly to return to
E&PV - own ebook and print versions; don't always catalog both forms
About Me
I'm a retired university professor (physical chemistry) with a deep interest in all areas of science. I try to travel to places that feed those interests, and use photography as a way of connecting with the natural world (see my photos on smugmug - link below - if you're interested). Music, live or recorded, is a cherished source of entertainment.
