About meI grew up in a used bookstore. I almost completed a major in English literature. I finished a major in Philosophy, then went on to get a masters and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. My reading includes philosophy, psychology, religion, freethought, science, science fiction, fantasy, chess, and chess variants. These days, I do most of my reading with ereaders. I value convenience, customizability, ergonomics, instant delivery, portability, and saving space. While some people care about the sensory experience of reading a physical book, I do not. Lacking thumbs, I cannot hold a book open in one hand and also turn the page. When I was younger, I got into comic books, because they would lie flat open on a desk without any need to hold them open. I appreciate that ereaders allow me to read books without any need to hold them open.
About my libraryThe books I have read and own reflect a wide variety of views, and it would be a mistake to focus on selected books here and assume that these represent the entirety of my worldview. Look at the books here as a whole, and you will see a tendency toward wanting to understanding the world, myself, and other people better and toward wanting to live a good life. My books include religious, new age, and scientific works. I sometimes read books I agree with, and I sometimes read books on subjects I remain skeptical about.
I would like to include all books I've read here, but I started this too late in life to remember them all. I have included books I still own, and I have included books I've recently read, but I may not recall some library books or other books no longer in my possession. I do not use LibraryThing to keep track of what I'm currently reading, because that would get unwieldy. I update it mainly when I'm listing physical books or when I finish reading a book.
