About meI'm a children's librarian at a large urban library in the Seattle area. I also devour books in the genre of contemporary psychological fiction, and dabble in historical fiction. I'd say the most amazing book I've read this year is "Shantaram," by Gregory David Roberts. When I'm not reading, I'm in the mountains hiking and backpacking--exploring the Cascades, Olympics...and maybe a bit of the California Sierras and the Idaho Sawtooths. If I didn't have to work (sigh) I'd be doing kids' puppet shows, writing children's and adult fiction and travel non-fiction, and TRAVELING in the U.S. and abroad--I like to call up delightful memories of my trips to Bali, Belize, Kenya, Thailand, Argentina and Chile, Europe and Eastern Europe...on those days when I'm restless and wish I was anywhere but in the library (yea, I think we all feel that way sometime, as much as we love libraryland!). I wish we public librarians could take a sabbatical (sigh!).

About my libraryABOUT THE LIBRARY I WORK IN: We're an active children's and youth services library, and we feature many special programs. I delight in writing scripts and producing puppet shows (we have over 100 puppets in our collection!!!), and also do storytelling and arts and crafts programs. It's great being able to work with a wide range of kids, and I plan and perform anything from baby storytimes to teen book chat programs!
These are books that I truly cherish--some of the most intriguing, original, mind-opening and amazing books I've encountered in my life. I just want this list to be "special" books, not a mere list of the books I may have on my shelves at home! Your comments are welcome!
