About me45-year-old man now living in the NYC suburbs after many years in the city. I have a lot of books and a very understanding wife.

About my libraryMy library consists of over 7,500 volumes - all but a handful of them actual paper books. Its eclectic nature reflects my many, varied interests.

Some areas of particular interest include:

- Religion (focus on Christianity, Buddhism, mystical traditions in the world’s religious traditions, and monasticism)

- Literary fiction, including many foreign titles in translation published by New Directions, New York Review Books, and Archipelago

- Art: particularly strong in Spanish art of all periods; Medieval art; the Italian Renaissance; Impressionism; Expressionism; Surrealism; Van Gogh; Matisse; Picasso; Metropolitan Museum, MoMA, and Neue Galerie publications; and museum collection catalogues.

- History; special interest in cultural history and medieval Spain

- Poetry and poetics

- Spain

- Travel and exploration

- The Middle East

- New York City

- Folktales and legends

- Biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs

- Books about books

- England

- France, especially books about or set in Paris

- Italy

- Cartography, maps, and atlases

- Essays

- Central Asia

- Natural history

- St. Francis of Assisi

- Latin America

- Cookbooks, especially focusing on the Mediterranean region

- National Geographic magazine (1980-present, not catalogued here) and books

- The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin (1993-present, catalogued)

- Aramco World magazine (most issues from 1960-present, not catalogued here)

My wife's collection of Romanian literature, around 100 volumes, will be catalogued shortly. Our 3-year-old’s ever-growing number of children’s books will also be added to the catalogue at a later date.

I plan to eventually catalogue our 1,200 or so DVDs. We also have a large music collection, but at this point that’s completely digital and resides in the cloud.
