I hope she enjoys the book -- I know I did, and now I've read his others that are available in English. I didn't see your note until today -- I've been on a cruise in the South China Sea. Our boat had internet access, but so slow there was no hope of logging on to LibraryThing. I've just transferred to a hotel in Hong Kong, which seems very roomy after month on board.
You're very welcome! If you like either Stross OR Jones, then my work here will be done.

Cheers.

Hey there, just sending a belated thank you for the SantaThing gifts. I was away over the holidays but found the two books when I got back.

Cool choices! I've read one book from each of those authors but I hadn't heard of the books you picked. I really enjoyed Ender's Game, so I'm eager to read more from Card. I also read the first Thomas Covenant book, and for some reason haven't continued that series. I think it got lost in all the other series I'm in the middle of. But the book you sent me seems more up my alley. The description sounds somewhat like the Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter F Hamilton, which I liked but I know Donaldson is a better wordsmith than Hamilton.

So thanks again!

Hey! My Santathing books arrived today & I just wanted to say thanks. Very nice choices both. While I live in South Africa currently, I am actually Australian, so the Platypus book was quite appropriate & I look forward to reading it. Ditto the Peter the Great book. Russian History is something know basically nothing about & if the book won a Pulitzer prize it must be pretty good. Thanks again.
