About meI have a book problem. If I am not reading I get anxious. I read between 200&300 books a year, mostly F&SF from one of our wonderful local libraries. I am retired from being a computer geek, and like dressing up in historic costume and sitting outdoors in the park with my SCA friends, but am likely to bring my kindle with me.
I rate books based both on how much I like them and on narrative integrity and the lack of what seems to me to be authorial self indulgence. If the setting of the book is minimally presented or relentlessly unappealing, the characters, style, pacing, and plot had best be excellent. That said, I have about 200 books on a shelf that I go to when I need a comfort read. These aren't always the books I would rate most highly.

About my libraryThere are thousands of books, comic books, records and DVDs at our house. I've been buying F&SF book and costuming books for decades, my husband also buys F&SF plus comics, DVDs, vinyl lps, and we still can play laser discs. We both like Gene Wolfe, Terry Pratchett, Lois McMaster Bujold and J.K. Rowling, but after that our preferences split.
