About meHi! I'm Nikki, I'm twenty-four, and I live in Wales. I've just completed my postgrad degree in literature, so who knows where my life is going now -- further into academia, I hope.

I've had a couple of requests from authors to read and review their work in exchange for a free copy. I'm glad to, especially if it fits in my particular interest areas, but I make no promises about how quickly I can get round to doing so. I'm an impulsive reader, and a book might wait two years for me to get round to it only to be read in the space of an afternoon. I have a Kindle and it's always in need of more books... If I request a book, however, e.g. from Netgalley, I'll do my best to read it within the month.

Despite my degrees, my reviews focus on my personal reaction to a book, and usually my ratings aren't based on technical merit but on my enjoyment. So a trashy urban fantasy novel might still get four stars, though I tend to reserve five stars for something that really knocks me for six.

My blog is definitely worth looking at if you're interested in my thoughts on books more generally. I post select reviews there as well as challenges, reading lists, updates on what I think about what I'm reading, etc.

About my libraryI try to read widely, in terms of genre, place and time of origin, and in terms of authors; I skew to fantasy from the last decade, female authors, and stories of European origin, but I do try to look outside that. My degrees have focused on medieval stuff -- Old Icelandic, Anglo-Saxon, Middle English -- but I'm interested in contemporary work when it comes to my leisure time. Oh, and when I read for my course, I mostly read texts in translation, but where I've read the original or extracts of the original, I try and comment on the translation for those who don't have the language skills but want something close to the original.

My main interest is the stories of King Arthur: my Master's thesis was on Sir Kay, and I've done research on both Gawain and Guinevere before. I'm interested in pretty much anything Arthurian, so feel free to send any recommendations my way.
