About me"MAY WE BE INSPIRED TO CONTINUE TO READ"

Stetson Book Club was organized by the New Haven (CT) Section of the National Council of Negro Women (Sheila Jewell and Geraldine Poole) and the Stetson Library-New Haven,CT (Joan Silverman).

The first meeting was February 15, 1997.
The first book was "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston.

The Club's 18 members meet one Saturday per month at 10 AM, September through June.

We have hosted the following authors:

Sharon Gambrell "Caroline"
Lucy Anne Hurston "Speak So You Can Speak Again"
Joel Lang "Complicity"
Karen E. Olson "Sacred Cows"
Mary-Ann Tirone Smith "Girls of Tender Age"
Elisabeth Petry "At Home Inside"

In May 2007 Club hosted "To Kill a Mockingbird" BIG READ breakfast event.

In May 2008 discussed "Fahrenheit 451" 2008 BIG READ selection.

Saturday, September 13, 2008 10th Anniversary Celebration 11 AM - 1 PM at Stetson Library. Special guests: Mary Lou Aleskie,Andria Matthews,Mary-Ann Tirone Smith,Stephanie Green,Aisha Banks,Joan Silverman

Saturday, April 25, 2009 Elisabeth Petry author of At Home Inside about her mother Ann Petry The Street.

April 2010 selection: Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom extremely well received!

Saturday,May 22,2010 we meet to discuss our 100th book- Hell Gate, by Linda Fairstein !

Saturday, June 26,2010 bus trip to Hue-man Book Store in Harlem to discuss The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Lunch at Harlem Bar-B-Q.
