Over the years I have built up a modest book collection, much of it on non-fiction travel and history, of course, with a specific focus on those countries I lived in and traveled to, but also a significant part in Dutch and English-language literature. Plus bits and pieces about everything else, as always.

For more than half of my life I lived and worked abroad, in countries as divers as Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, India and China, in Tanzania, Turkey and Albania, in Haiti, and in the UK, closer to my present home in The Netherlands. Nowadays I spend up to three months a year traveling, to anywhere, really - as long as it is relatively safe. My main interests are travel, including the journeys of those intrepid 19th Century explorers - men of means and leisure, as one of them put it -, and history and current affairs, ie tomorrow's history. Biggest hobby is maintaining my own travelsite, where I post blogs of recent trips, as well as experiences and photos of those 30 years abroad.
