I love, love, love this book and decided I'd give the audiobook a try on a long drive to refresh my memory before the TV show starts. I hated this audiobook narration--the female voices are terrible and retain none of the cool or humor of Tana French's language.
Reading this book made my skin crawl, and I wanted to reject it so that I wouldn't have to think about it. But I couldn't get the characters or story out of my head and ultimately found this to be an incredible and affecting book. You as the reader know the relationship is inappropriate, but you are along for the ride as the main character comes to this realization. It's sickening, but it should be. Not the easiest read but a very good one.
Excellent story of two sisters disguised as a (very interesting) murder mystery, I loved the way the author treated all characters with respect and depth, instead of painting all addicts and dealers as monsters or victims. I felt like I learned a lot about the way people actually survive on the streets, and I loved the detail of a shop keeper who lets people use his empty, warm back room.
