I thought this book was awesome. The first thing I liked about it was the story line. It was about a young boy who is afraid to go to a party. The boy keeps giving excuses on why he shouldn’t go but his mom keeps encouraging him. For example, the boy says, “What if there’s someone at the party I don’t know?” Then his mother says, “You’ll be fine. It’s nice to meet new people.” She says that to help see that everything will be all right. I also loved the illustrations. Every time the boy and his mother got to a house and looked to see if it’s where the party was, there were funny scenes going on in the houses. This is great for children because it makes the book more entertaining and fun to read. The main theme of this book is to not be nervous and to have courage when doing new things.
I really liked this book. The first thing I liked about it was the meaning behind it. The book was written to celebrate the beauty of African Americans. I think that this is a great basis behind a book. It shows unity and happiness from a certain race and all races should be celebrated. I also liked the words in the book. It was almost written like a poem. One of the lines was, “The night is beautiful, so the faces of my people.” The overall theme of this book is to celebrate the African American race.
I thought this was a great book and very educational too. One of the things I liked was all of the text features. There were great pictures, captions, and little fun facts on each page. For example, one of the fun facts was “The first day of fall is September 22nd and 23rd.” I also liked the information presented in the book. It was educational but also at a level that younger students can understand. For example, “There are four seasons in each year. Each season lasts about three months.” The overall theme of this book is to teach the reader about fall.
I thought the book “Guess Who?” was a pretty good book. One thing I liked about it was how informational it was. Each page had a different question on it and possible answers. For example, one of the questions was, “Who cleans your teeth?” Then there were possible answers such as “A shoemaker?” “A window washer?” Then when you turn the page the actual answer was given. I also like the pictures in the book. They were all real life pictures. I also liked how each thing in the book had a picture for it. Overall, the main idea of this book is teaching children about things in the real world.
This book overall was a pretty good book. The first thing I liked about it was the illustrations. The pictures were the same as the Scooby-Doo T.V. show. I think this is great because it will interest children who don’t like to read as much. They will almost feel like they are watching the T.V. show. Secondly, I also like the language used, it was really fun to read. The book states, “As long as the Flume Plume keeps fluming and pluming, nothing will keep Scooby and me from Ocean Land.” The main theme of this book is to do the right thing and try to always help in whatever way you can.
I really liked this book a lot. It was really funny and enjoyable to read. One thing I like about it was definitely the plot of the story. It was this girl telling her mom how her field trip at the farm went. The story was a long elaborate story with some crazy scenarios happening. For example, a cow started crying because it got hit with a haystack and the pigs ate all of the kid’s lunches. This would be fun for children to read. I also enjoyed the illustrations. They were really elaborate but they used bright colors and were also kind of funny. The overall theme of this book is using your imagination and friendship.

I actually really like this book. I love wordless picture books. I think they are so good for children’s imagination. They are great for kids who struggle with comprehension especially because it helps them with sequencing and things of that nature. I also liked the book because of the illustrations. The colors in the pictures were all dark greyish colors except for one object. In every picture there was one thing that was the color red. This is because the girl has magic red chalk that she draws things with. I think this is a cool idea and makes it fun for the kids. The overall theme of this book is adventure.
Overall I think this was a pretty good book. One thing I enjoyed about it was the illustrations. The pictures were created with objects you would find around your house it made them look really cool. For example, the dog’s eyes were buttons, his nose was a tab from a soda can, and his mouth was a zipper. Another thing I liked was the plot of the story. The story is about a dog named Ralph who can talk and all the things he likes to do. Obviously this is unrealistic but I think it's good because it helps kids have an imagination. The name theme was about a dog named Ralph who can talk.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I think it did a decent job explaining the differences between boys and girls but I thought it was a little inappropriate for the age levels, which are ages 4-6. The book uses terms like “penis” and “vagina” and I know children should know the names of their body parts but at that age I think children shouldn’t be exposed to body parts of the opposite sex. The book also had pictures of these body parts and I think that is a little inappropriate. On the other hand I did like that the book makes it important to children that everyone is unique. The book says, “You are YOU. God made YOU.” This is good for children to know that they are unique but its ok to be unique and be who you are. The overall theme of this book is to teach children about the differences between boys and girls.

Overall I thought this was a pretty decent book. One thing I liked about it was the border on the pages. There was a little picture on the top left that showed what previously happened in the story and on the bottom right there was a little picture that showed what was going to happen in the story. I think this is good for children because it helps them keep track of the story. I also liked the illustrations. The story takes place in China and the illustrations depict China very well. It’s good for children to see how it looks there and to notice similarities and differences between where there they live and China. The main theme of this book is perseverance and to have faith.
I think all the Junie B. Jones books are great. One thing I love about them is the language used. The language used in them is fun and engaging for any reader. For example, in this book it uses the phrase “loosey goosey” and “dumb bunny.” I also like that there are a few illustrations by not many. Since this is a transitional book, its good to have some illustrations so the reader doesn’t get overwhelmed but its good that there isn’t too many because the reader should get used to transitioning to books without any illustrations or pictures at all. The main idea of this book is about not worrying what you look like, even if you have a missing tooth.
I thought this book was really good. The first thing I liked about it was that it not only teaches the reader about what a library is, but it also teaches many facts about libraries and the history of libraries. For example, the book states, “The biggest library in the United States is the Library of Congress.” It also states, “Before there were books, words were written on tablets of clay or on scrolls.” I also liked how this book teaches students about how a library works, how to find books, and how to check out a book that you want to read. The book takes the reader through a step-by-step process on how to do those things. The overall main idea of this book is to teach the reader about libraries and how they function.
I really enjoyed this book. I was very curious what it was going to be about to so I had to read it. First, I loved the plot of the book. It was about a bunch of neighbors who all needed a candle for various reasons, mainly religious reasons. They all passed down the same candle for everyone to use. I liked this topic because through telling an interesting story, the reader learns about some holidays or religious ceremonies celebrated by people. For example, some families needed a candle to celebrate Havdalah, Saint Lucia Day, and Kwanza. Secondly, I loved the illustrations. They were somewhat realistic and depicted the story very well. They also showed a good amount of diversity between the neighbors and that shows the reader that people of all religions and cultures can live together and get along. The main theme of this book is to celebrate diversity and people of all cultures coming together.
I thought this book was awesome. I think any book that teaches about other cultures and religions is great. The first thing I liked was obviously the topic of the book. The book talked about many different religions, where people practice these religions, and ways people practice these religions. Various religions mentioned in the book were Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Rastafarian. I also really liked the pictures in the book. They were all real life pictures that help the reader get a better understanding of these religions. The pictures showed what people wear for certain religions, different holy items for certain religions, and it showed how people practice their religions and where they go to practice them. The main idea of this book is to teach the reader about many different religions that are present around the world.
I thought this book was awesome. There were a lot of things I liked about it. The first thing is definitely the rhyming. Rhyming is a great way to get students interested in books. For example, one of the lines in the book was “Guinea pigs need to get lots of exercise, too. There are ramps to be climbed and tubes to run through.” Secondly, I thought the illustrations were great. They were very colorful and vibrate which will catch the reader’s eye. Finally, I liked the topic of the book. It teaches the reader about many types of pets such as cats, dogs, guinea pigs, and bunnies. The overall theme of this book is to teach the reader about different pets through a fun rhyming story.
I though this book was a great book. It was a mixture of informational and biography. It was a biography because it showed the life of Anne Frank. Also, the pictures were great. They were real pictures from Anne Frank’s life and also real pictures from World War II. The book was also an informational book because it teaches the reader a little about World War II. I liked that It helps the reader with words that are unfamiliar and helps pronounce them. For example the word Nazi (Not-see) has a pronunciation next to it and same with the word annex (an-eks). The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about Anne Frank and World War II.
This was a pretty good book. I liked it because it told the life story of John and Abigail Adams through a story instead of just stating facts. This is great for children because it doesn’t bore the children and they get to read a story instead of just historical facts. Also the pictures depicted the time period very well. They showed how people dressed and it is great for students to learn how people dressed and what things looked like back in that time. Them main theme in the book is to show the life of John and Abigail Adams through a story.
I love The Magic Tree house books. This one in particular is a great book. One thing I love about this book and the whole series in general is that they are very educational. The books teach the readers about different historical events and places around the world. For example in this book it states, “The Olympic Games began in ancient Greece over 2,500 years ago.” That fact is a great historical fact and it’s educational for the reader. I also love the illustrations. These books are very engaging for children and the illustrations just add on to it. They aren’t very realistic but they also aren’t unrealistic. They are in black and white but they still are big enough for the reader to be drawn to them. The main idea of this book is to preserver and work hard to accomplish a task.
I thought this was a good book for children. One thing I liked about the book was the pictures. The pictures were real life pictures and they also had arrows to direct the reader on how to move when doing certain stretches or gymnastics moves. For example, when showing the reader how to do jumping jacks when stretching, the pictures directed the reader on how to move their arms and legs. Secondly I liked the similes used while describing certain gymnastics moves. For example, when teaching the reader how to leap it states “We can leap like frogs.” The main theme of this book is to teach young readers about gymnastics.
I thought this book was a pretty decent book. One thing I liked about it was how there were fold out pages. This book is a beginner level book so I feel that the fold out pages would be fun for the young readers and would get them engaged in the book. For example, there were steps presented in the book about what to do before karate class and each fold out page had a different step on it. I also liked how the important words in the book were bolded, however, I feel like there should have been a glossary in the back of the book. A glossary would help the readers better understand the important vocabulary words. The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about karate.
I really liked this book a lot. One thing I enjoyed was how it teaches the reader what patterns are and shows different types of patterns. For example, it tells the reader that patterns are made from repeating shapes, colors, and numbers. It then states that hockey uniforms have color patterns. I also liked the pictures throughout the book. They were real life pictures that helped the reader understand the game of hockey better. For example there was pictures of players, hockey pucks and sticks, and even referees. The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about patterns as well as teach the reader about the game of hockey.
I actually really enjoyed this book. One thing I liked about it was how it teaches the reader opposites through football. For example it shows the reader the opposite of over which is under. The book states, “A player leaps over tacklers and the goal line. Touchdown! Being under the pile is no fun.” These statements are also supported with pictures for the reader to understand better. Along with teaching the reader opposites, the book also teaches the reader about football. For example, it teaches the reader positions such as running back and quarter back. The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about football and also teach the reader about opposites.
This book was a decent book. One thing I didn’t like about it was that the book didn’t really describe or teach the reader anything about cars or racing. The book used several words about cars and racing but they weren’t defined or shown with pictures. I think everything in an informational book should be clearly defined and shown to the reader. What I did like was the pictures. Like I said in one of my earlier logs, I really like when informational books have real life pictures because it helps the reader have a better understanding. Even though this book didn’t have labels for the pictures, they were still real life pictures so it might help the reader understand a little better. The main idea of this book is to teach the reader about racecar driving.

I thought this was a pretty decent book. One thing I liked about it was how each word related to karate was also shown to the reader in Japanese. For example, the karate teacher or instructor is called “sensei” in Japanese. This not only teaches the reader about karate but it also teaches the reader different words in Japanese. Another thing I liked about the book was the bolded words throughout the book and the glossary in the back. Throughout the book there was certain vocabulary words in bolded print and they were defined in the back of the book. For example, words like “block” and “stance” are bolded in the book and are defined in the glossary. The main theme of this book is to walk the reader through a karate class and to teach them about karate.
Overall I really didn’t like this book. However, I did like the concept of the book. The book shows the activity of riding a bike. Throughout the book the main character is shown riding his bike around the city and through different areas. One of the things I didn’t like about the book was the illustrations. They were very abstract and different. The characters in the book were drawn with long arms and a weird shaped torso that was almost like a squiggly line. The illustrator may have been trying to catch the reader’s attention with these abstract illustrations but I feel like it would confuse a young reader since the people in the book don’t exactly look like real people. The main idea of this book is to show the activity of bike riding.
Overall I really liked this book. One thing that I really liked was the first page. It presented the reader with all the important vocabulary that they will need to look for while reading. It also showed the reader how to pronounce each word. For example, one of the words is dribble and in parenthesis it showed how to pronounce the word (drib-uhl). Secondly, I liked the pictures because they were real pictures. I do love children’s books with illustrations but for informational texts I love real life pictures. It shows the reader what the real life objects or things that are being taught throughout the book actually like. For example, there are pictures of actual people playing a game of soccer. The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about the game of soccer.
I absolutely loved this book, especially because it was a poetry book. The rhyming and poetry made it very engaging to read and that is one thing I loved about it. Secondly I loved the illustrations. Eric Carle’s use of watercolors and tissue paper make his illustrations very unique and fun to look at. I also loved how each creature that had a poem had its own illustration. It helps the reader visualize what the creature looks like. I think the main idea of this book is to help the reader use their imagination and to teach about mythical creatures.
I honestly didn’t like this book at all. First of all, the illustrations were very confusing, odd, and somewhat creepy. I feel that it would make the book confusing for young readers because a lot of young readers use illustrations to guide them. I also didn’t like the book because of the plot and the language used. The whole book was about teaching the game of HORSE. Yeah, it may be good for kids to learn a new game but I don’t think for a book this is the best topic. Also, the book used the phrase “or whatever.” For young readers this isn’t the best language to use in a book. In school, teachers don’t want their children to use informal language so it wouldn’t be good to read a book with informal language in it. The only theme I could think of for this book would be just to teach the reader the game HORSE.
I though this book was awesome. It shows aspects of different countries and cultures during the 1940s. The book talks about how Jesse Owens was a slave and grew up picking cotton. This somewhat teaches children about slavery and segregation. It also talks about the Holocaust because Jesse Owens went to the Berlin Olympics during the time of WWII. Secondly I really liked the illustrations. They showed the different things the book talked about really well. For example, when talking about the Holocaust it showed the concentration camps and what they looked like. The main theme of this book is that no matter where you come from or your background, you can achieve anything.
I thought this book was pretty good. It wasn’t the best but it was decent. Even though the book had a good topic, which was about Jackie Robinson being the first black person to play in the major leagues, I thought the way it was written and the illustrations were kind of boring. It is great for kids to learn about segregation and how then blacks and whites were separated in most things. All of that is explained in the book, however it was boring. The plot, which was about a boy and his dad going to see Jackie Robinson, was bland and it wasn’t the most entertaining book. The illustrations were also very boring. A lot of the colors used were very bland and the pictures weren’t that clearly drawn. The main idea of this book is equality.
