I searched the group and couldn't find anything on Hungarian library support... I'd really need this feature, and I guess other Hungarian users would also appreciate it :)

MOKKA (the shared database of Hungarian libraries) has Z39.50 support, but I've found nothing whatsoever describing the exact specifications or access on their website (, and the rules of use document is "Under Construction" on both the English and Hungarian versions of the website. blah.

However! The National Library (OSZK, NSZL) has this:
I know absolutely nothing about Z39.50, but this looks just like the information one would need to set LibraryThing up to access their database, and it's in English!

Could someone look into it? In exchange, I can rant and rave about the greatness of LibraryThing to my Hungarian friends ;)

(OSZK was discussed briefly in the old Google group in a slightly different context and before the character set cleanup.)

I would appreciate the adding of OSZK as well. It is clear that LibraryThing has to balance the addition of features that benefit the majority of its members with those that benefit a niche, but I am sure that as it is already catering to the 'niche' of people who read, this is going to be possible!

I've found more info about MOKKA's Z39.50 support here, but it's all in Hungarian. If it looks even remotely useful, I can of course translate... I think this one is an even better candidate than OSZK because it's basically the national library union catalog and it includes all the data from OSZK anyway. But OSZK has a detailed Z39.50 guide in English so it might be more useful...

I fully support the idea to include OSZK in the database! Is there any expected time when it will be achieved?

I've found hungarian database, and made it work through guruilb.
Maybe with the parameters below, it could be made working here too:

Library: Magyar Országos Közös Katalógus
Port: 210
Database: MOKKA
Encoding: UTF-8

Mokka is now an official source for LibraryThing!
