This is the week when your characters are supposed to start developing a life of their own. One of my main characters has completely faded into the background but two of my periphery characters have started making all kinds of comments and demands!

I’m having fun having just passed the 25K mark yippee! – But now suffering with serious wrist ache from too much keyboard tapping.

Gilroy where’s that cart?

What can I do for you, miss? I have heated towels for sore wrists.

Oh, LadyClare! You are my hero! I've just cracked the 15K barrier & feel so far behind, but this is nothing new for me. Each year that I won (got past 50K) I was behind the entire month. Thank Goodness for Thanksgiving weekend! lol

I really thought I'd be okay but work has been killing me... hoping to do 44K in the last half of the month. Wish me luck... congrats to you guys... you're amazing... I'm chiheatherlove on the site if you want some writing "buddies" on the site :-)

I am sitting at just over 12K. I need one of gilroy's hot towels for my wrist because icing does not seem to be helping.

I'm close to 18K. We have the whole week off next week so I fully intend to catch up then. *Sarcasm dripping*
I like today's pep talk which talks about throwing in unexpected events to pep things up. I'll think about that today as I help our Seniors with their Senior Projects (major school assignment). Their 7-page research paper and works cited are due today. We are helping with everything from their research and writing (many English learners), MLA format, and just plain Word junk like putting page numbers on their paper. (Why does the default page formatting include an extra space at the end of a paragraph?) Of course, there's nothing like waiting until the last minutes. But, wait, that's what I'm doing isn't it?

There was one day last week that I didn't write so I'm a day behind and it's been a little hard to catch up, but I feel good anyway. I didn't win the last two years, but this year I feel really good about it. I'm going to try to stay positive.

*rolls cart over to VictoriaPL* A warm towel to help fight the carpel tunnel.

Mamzel> That extra space might be because word automatically adds a space after each period. Its more annoying with WordPerfect, because its set for two spaces, which means a Mr. gains an extra space as well.

I offer lots of encouragement from my desk. (While I'm not NaNoing this year, I'm submitting to publications some previous completed work and editing two different previous NaNovels. So I'm still working with you guys!)

We all appreciate your support and treats. Good luck with your submissions!

PS - I'm talking about the extra space when you reach the end of a paragraph. When you hit return you get extra space between lines. So if you are double spaced, you get three spaces between paragraphs. It's an easy fix - go to the tab for line spaces and click where it says "Remove extra space after paragraph" but when you have to show each kid that comes in (and they never, ever remember) it is very annoying.

-52 posts week 1
-19 posts week 2
-Only 9 posts so far week 3! (10 now)

A worrying trend. Are people falling into the crevice or are they all too busy writing?

Keep going everyone!

#Thanks Gilroy for the hot towels! My wrists are a little better now- I wrap them in a fleece scarf while I am writing.

I actually hope it gets cooler and I can wear my fingerless gloves. I actually got them for my daughter but she never wore them so I took them back.

Does anyone else have favorite clothing items they like to wear when they write?

I have a pair of fingerless gloves too - they're white and black striped and I always wear them during NaNo.

Bekka,
Breathe, take a shower, make a cup of tea, take a walk around the block. Maybe you'll get hit by inspiration somewhere along the way.

What's the blockage, oh sage of words?
Perhaps one of us could help break the beaver dam loose.

BekkaJo --

Look at where your chracters are right now and ask yourself what is the worst thing that could happen? It doesn't have to be a huge monster rushing in to destroy the city. Even a rain storm at the wrong time can be a huge problem.

Start throwing problems at your characters to see how they react to overcome them. It may be that after NaNo you cut some of the problems back out -- but for now, you're just looking for a way to get your story moving again.

Sorry for the vent guys! I have just cut a few days ahead - it leave a massive narrative plot hole but I can go back and fill it in later I guess!

#15 *snort* I think Sage of words is pushing it. A lot! Maybe a parsley of words?

I'm just over 31k and *still* completely unsure if this is an actual story or just loosely-related ramblings. *rolls eyes*

The "story" has common characters, and a vague plot, but is going absolutely nowhere. There is no end in sight, no idea where these characters are headed or what the overall arc is about. It's basically just snippits of the MC's life and her relationship with MC2, and all her inner ramblings about said relationship.

I really do like it, though. I didn't at first, but I've gotten to the point where the ramblings are actually realistic, and actually say something about the character instead of just being stupid and boring. .... Like the 2k+ rambling where Ruby is comparing the relationship to parachuting out of an airplane. hehe

Still here and have just (end of week 3) broken 35K. Was away for part of week 2, so the last 10 days or so passed in a blur of catch-up. Now I'm cruising on or thereabouts the suggested word count, but my story has developed a story within a story that is much more interesting than my main story, so I may end up with a very finished middle and no end -- will have to think of a way to finish off with dignity if this happens.

Anybody have time to read? I can't not read but my output (input?) goes way down during Nano. Am currently reading The Spy Who Came in From the Cold.

My reading time has been extremely limited as I was doing NaNo. I finished yesterday, yay! Well, not the story, but did get the 50K so I can get back to getting some reading done, and not kill myself writing (and worrying about writing).

Hope everyone else finishes too! Good luck to those still in the race!
