It was a VERY painful problem, which ultimately turned out to be - (for those technical) - a bug in optimization in the new 4.5.2 GCC compiler collection.
But the reason the chatrooms were down for almost a week is now resolved, and you can start using them again. :D
And, a really nasty bug that would have started hitting many many websites as the new compiler is used more places was found :D
Thanks to Morphy for reporting it. Since I use the chatroom via mIRC instead of the web site, I wasn't noticing it.
