I don't know of anything on royal jewels...not my area, and I don't know of anything on the current family...but I read Fall of Eagles by Sulzberger some years ago and I seem to recall it was pretty good.

I mean the old Austrian royal family, so I just might try out that book. Thanks!

Fall of the Eagles is a good one but it is not very in depth and unfortunately most of the good books about the Austrian royal family are printed in German. Here are a couple about Empress Elizabeth (Sissi): The Lonely Empress by Joan Haslip and Sissi: Empress of Austria, by Brigitte Hamann. There is also a good but older book about her by Egon Corti but I can't remember the title right now. There are also several good books in English about Maximilian and Carlota, if you would like titles let me know.

The Habsburgs: Embodying Empire by Andrew Wheatcroft is a decent account of the rise and fall of the Habsburg dynasty in Austria as well as in Spain.

I enjoyed Charles V : elected emperor and hereditary ruler by Manuel Fernández Alvarez and The decline and fall of the Habsburg Empire, 1815-1918 by Alan Sked.
