@ 12

ARCs are printed and bound as cheaply as possible. Publishers are not going to waste their money on making super nice review copies. As long as you can read the text, that's all that matters. Having said that, I'm not a fan of ARCs that don't have a pictorial cover, so I guess we're both picky.

The one I had from last month -The Peach Keeper was just like you'd buy at the store - except a few of the pages came out as I was turning them.

Generic soft cover, table of contents not numbered, list of maps page just says "TK". No maps or artwork although places reserved within the text for maps. Suspect it's going to be a little hard to follow along without the frequent maps the Shaara's are known for. Three chapters in, pretty slow so far, just introducing the main players. Can't wait for it to pick up. Supposed to cover the Battle of Okinawa, April-May 1945 - a battle I know absolutely nothing about.

I know it can feel like ages when you are waiting for a book you want to read, but it has been only 16 days since the winners were announced. I think that people who have already received their dead tree books are more the exception than the rule. I'm still waiting for my win, too.

Just a quick note: The publisher didn't post the book until April 19th. It was 21 days after being notified that I would be recieving the book that they shipped it out. Now I have to read it and write a review and it may take some time as I like to be thoughtful when writing them.

116Heather19
Apr 27, 2011, 8:27pm Top

I don't really think 21 days is a long time. Depending on the publisher and circumstances, they may need to wait for the books to be finished printing, be sending out multiple ARC-batches at once, etc. Since you aren't penalized for the days before you recieve the book, and since people often wait 2+ months before recieving their ER books, I'd say 21 days is nothing.

I had quite the surprise waiting for me when I went home for lunch today. My ER copy of Seduce Me in Dreams from the March batch, with a post date of April 1, 2011, was in my mail. I'm kind of wondering where it has been hiding out all this time.

In a post office being used to keep a door open during the summer. Fall started and it went on its way (kidding... congrats for getting it:)

Finally received The Profession by Steven Pressfield.

Was pleasantly surprised to receive and acutual paperback arc copy. Had a letter inside apologizing for the delay in sending out the book.
