Hi, LTers! I'm looking for science fiction (hard or space opera) comics/graphic novels that aren't about superheroes and aren't set in the Star Wars or Star Trek universes. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

The one I can think of that qualifies best is 10600936::The Complete Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination, adapted from the well-known novel.

Others that are science fiction-y:

32343::Akira by Katshhiro Otomo
1726448::DMZ by Brian Wood
66309::Ronin by Frank Miller
The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman
Y The Last man by Brian K. Vaughan

Tried to fix the touchstones

Linda and Valerian is YA but enjoyable. Can be hard to find depending on where you are, though. Originally they're in French.

French comics that belong to the genre you're describing :

L'Incal by Alejandro Jodorowsky / Moebius

Les Technopères

La caste des Métabarons

2000AD. A bunch of those strips should work.

Personally I like ABC Warriors.

A Distant Soil by Colleen Doran

Orbiter by Warren Ellis.

Grease Monkey by Tim Eldred was great! It's both funny and insightful.

*tongue in cheek* Serenity: Those Left Behind, Serenity: Float Out, Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale, ... :P

Gotta admit that I didn't think much of Y The Last man. After 60 or so issues, they left a number of things unresolved at the end.

Kind of a let down.
