It keeps coming up on MBZ, so I thought I'd start a thread here:

How many folks have read George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series? What did you think of them?

Haven't read any of them, but the discussion of the series on various blogs has been spirited. I'd be interested in hearing about the differences between the books and the series from people who have read/seen them. The comments on Manboobz were really fascinating.

I just started reading the books, and the series seems to be following them pretty faithfully, aside from some subtle character differences (also the structure of the storytelling is different in the books, even if the events remain the same).
Personally I am enjoying them very much and I haven't been bothered/offended etc. at all. Having said that, when a story involves swords and intrigue, I am not a very harsh critic.
