Hello everyone, I'm looking for a large, illustrated hardback I was given in the 80s, containing a variety of fairy tales. I remember it had the story 'The Three Oranges', among others. Problem is I think I'd only recognise it by the illustrations. But it definitely contained this story, which narrows it down a bit.

Thanks :)

This search has been stumping us over in the Name That Book group:

It's still stumping me! There are so many fairy tale and nursery rhyme book out there - I'm still looking for a particular book with 'Aiken Drum' in it.

I live in hope that someone with a head for these things will put together a cataloguing site for these books, where you could search by fairy tale, author, illustrator, that sort of thing.

Well, SurLaLune has a small list of books that contain The Three Oranges, but I don't think any of them are yours.

Hi. I think I know what book you are looking for! Magic Fairy Stories for Children Edited by Susan Taylor 1984. I loved this book too! In addition to The Three Oranges, also has the stories Foolish Frances and The Magic Thread.

So sorry for the late reply - don't know how I missed your message! You've got it! I'm so pleased, it was such a long shot, there being so many fairy story books published. I found some images online, one of them from The Three Oranges. Now to find a copy :)

I had starred the original post, because I wanted to see the book too. Very nice illustrations!

I've added a cover for you. You are welcome to add a list of the stories in the description box at the bottom of the page. That way, you can search by story title to find the book itself, if you ever forget again. (Just sayin' because I am prone to the disfunction.)

#10: Thank you for that, I found a little thumbnail picture but that's all.

The illustrations are as lovely as I remember them, I have to get myself a copy.

Hey. I know this is an old post but i’m hoping someone replies. I’m looking for a version of the three oranges too. I’m not sure if this is it or not. Here is what I know:
The version I read has more detail than a bunch of ones i’ve Found, for example; the younger brother made treats for the horse(s), and there might have been a milk maid, who was the princess? I don’t know maybe I muddled it with another book. Lol. There was just more detail in general. If anyone has a copy of the book you were talking about and has read the three oranges story I would appreciate knowing if it is more detailed than the blue fairy book is. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, thanks for any help. 👋
