I'm reading aloud to my 2nd graders:
How to Save Your Tail by Mary Hanson. The subtitle is: "If You're a Rat Nabbed by Cats Who Really Like Stories About Magic Spoons, Wolves With Snout-Warts, Big, Hairy Chimney Trolls. . . and Cookies Too"

It's told by a rat named Bob, whose favorites things are cookies and books. He does a kind of Scheherazade thing by telling stories to the cats who have captured him. Puts a different spin on fairy tales and fairy tale characters. It's fun to hear the kids make the connections.
