Hi, Jean! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, they are VERY seductive with their shiny covers and intriguing titles. They've sidetracked me more than once. Lol.

The books at the library are like hypnotists - come get me off the shelf....come get me off the shelf...

Sometimes you just can't resist..LOL

Cheli! It's a delight to have you drop by. Yes, hypnotism. That's the excuse I shall use next time. I did it against my will. It should come in handy since I'm going to the library tomorrow. Well, I'm about half through with the little bugger, but I'll probably have to recheck to finish it. In the meanwhile I've finished the last of my August Bombs.

21) Mansfield Park by Jane Austen}. Those who have been following my thread know that Jane Austen is probably not going to become my favorite writer, but I must say that I actually liked this one. I have the same uneasy feelings about the style and dialogue, but this one actually had enough of a plot to interest me and keep me reading to find out what happens. It seems that she has learned a little more about writing since her first books. Needless to say I am relieved to anounce another BOMB exploded and another notch for the classics on my desk. Yea for me. Some of my friends are appalled at Fanny's submissive nature (being women libbers themselves), but I have to remember the historical times and the situation she found herself being raised in. I don't find it too unlikely that she would think and behave exactly as she did. I on the other hand.....but that story is for another time.

22. Sacrilege by S. J. Parris. My first bomb exploded for September! Nowhere in the league with you guys, but I'm still happy. Trying to decide which book to pick up next... a classic or just one that has been waiting patiently on the TBR stack.

Well, I finished Hunger Games today, but it only counts for my 75 book challenge since it is an ebook. On to The Lincoln Conspiracy by Timothy L. O'Brien. This one is a RB and mine so it counts as a bomb.

Haven't been on for awhile. This has been a slow reading month for me. I just can't seem to get through anything. I hope that fall weather helps or I'll never make my goal.
I did finish an ebook The Rose of Fire by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, but it doesn't count as a bomb because of the ebook format. I just really needed to finish something for morale's sake.

Yea! Finally a book finished.
23. The Lincoln Conspiracy by Timothy L. O'Brien. Ok, but not great. I won't be keeping this one. It is earmarked for donation to the library, but if anyone would like to have it post your name and address on my profile before the end of October and I will send it to you. Only two left to make my goal.

Triple Yea! I finished two more BOMBS and I reached my goal of 25 BOMBS for the year. I will keep on reading for the rest of 2012 and maybe in 2013 I can set my sights a bit higher.
24. Persuasion by Jane Austen. Nope, Austen isn't going to be one of my favorite authors. Her writing style just leaves me cold. However, another BOMB down and another classic off my list.
25. 12.21: A Novel by Dustin Thomason. A very enjoyable book. I finished it in just two days. Using the hype of the Mayan Long Count calendar, Thomason has crafted a novel that is a cross between a medical suspense and a mystery thriller. I found it easier to read than Rule of Four and a more original story. Although it was a bit contrived toward the end it still takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride to the end.
Therefore, having completed my rather conservative goal I'm moving on with The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. Machiavelli's book counts as a bomb, but Grahame-Smith's book is a loaner from my sister that has been eyeing me from across the room for several months. Both count on my 75 book challenge though which is a comfort.

Ok, I finished my first book for October, but it isn't a bomb. I just needed something entertaining and for October I'm planning a paranormal month. So Abraham Lincon: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-smith fit the bill. Also, it is one book off my stack of borrowed books. That stack is beginning to rival by TBR pile. I enjoyed this novel and it started off with a bang, unfortunately it slowed down about 3/4 of the way through almost to the point where I lost interest. Surprise ending though. Overall worth the read.

26. Dark Shadows: The Salem Branch by Lara Parker. A nostolgic visit to a favorite TV series, it was ok but not exactly what I expected. The familiar characters were all there, but the story was mostly about a woman from the 17th century named Miranda du Val.
27. Seducing the Vampire by Michelle Hauf. Entertaining and fast moving. Not a keeper, but it definitely passed the time and was in keeping with the season.
So two BOMBS for October and they are also out the door when my sister finishes them. I've earmarked them for donation to the library. Ok reads, but not good enough for me to want to read twice.

Reader and Educator Guide to "the Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" by Houghton Miffin Harcourt. Another book finished but it doesn't count as a bomb because it is an ebook. I read this in preparation for The Hobbit movie coming out in December.

The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. Another book down, but not a bomb because it is an ebook. I read this book around 20 years ago and was fascinated by it. This time it was less of a pleasure because I got a very poor translation. Deleted this one, but I shall look for a better translation for my permanent library.

Finally, I'm reading a book that counts as a BOMB. It's not borrowed or an ebook, but an honest to goodness book off the shelf. Now that I have your curiosity spiked I'll tell you, it's {Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I'm enjoying it very much.

Team of Rivals is on my shelves, too, but, despite all the good reviews I've read of it, I think the length keeps putting me off.

Hi Bragan. Good of you to drop by. I think that you would find the pages fly especially if you like history. In fact, I'm almost finished with it and I have recommended it to my sister who loves American Civil War books.

30. The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. I've also finished a BOMB. I've been working on this one for a while, but I really enjoyed it. Just enough mystery, romance, and paranormal to keep me interested.
