Cookies are better known as biscuits, and what you may know as a biscuit, I think, are called scones. My vague recollection is "sucking mud" was a Star Trek reference - “Shut her down Scotty, she's sucking mud again!” which may have been popularised in a computer error message, but was possibly originally a navy term. Then again, as you suggest, it could all have been a figment of my imagination.
