is everyone excitedly waiting for the July 21st release date? (there can't be any other books of worth being released in July? this one is just too too important).

i am waiting with bated breath, and this gets me very very excited (almost an erotic sensation) since there is nothing else in my life of any real importance. i can't wait find out what happens to muggles and wuggles...
any book i can share with my five year old nephew is just super!!!

on the newt scale i bet it will do just super duper awesome!

Release date for what?

Jun 27, 2007, 12:16 pm

I'm excited, I don't want it to end, but I want to know everything! I'm also looking forward to all the interviews that JKR is going to do after the release. So many questions...

And I am looking forward to the movie too! I hope to see it in IMAX before the end of July...

First post is tongue-in-cheek I hope (or very disturbing per the "almost erotic sensation").

5myshelves

erotic

Might be all of that "snogging."

What does the five year old nephew make of that?

Edited: Jun 27, 2007, 12:43 pm

Considering the original poster's opinions in the Science Fiction group, I'd say it's far beyond tongue-in-cheek and more like dripping sarcasm.

I stopped reading after book four... I think. It was the one with the wizards. And magic.

What's with the flags??!

There is no violation of the terms of service. We don't get to flag posts just because we don't like the opinions expressed, sarcastically or otherwise. Flagging posts for those reasons is itself against the TOS.

For once, it wasn't me! Being boorish isn't flag-worthy.

I agree with #8. Let's not use flags in any way that isn't very conservative.

If you find someone to be trollish, the best way to deal with it is to completely IGNORE them.

regarding question on release date: Harry Potter of course! what else can we all be waiting for?

here is the original question posed. for some reason it was flagged as abusive? not sure why? is there a personal attack or otherwise in there?
Uh, we do people make 'assumptions'? golly gee

"is everyone excitedly waiting for the July 21st release date? (there can't be any other books of worth being released in July? this one is just too too important).

*added text: P.S. I get "excited" waiting for the release. someone else made a very very terrible/nasty pederast implication (if you are parents, then shame on you) which might also be called 'abusive'...
my excitement, like yours maybe, is in the expectation/waiting/desire for the new release (thus almost an 'erotic' feeling?)

'snogging' is fun

#20 ellevee - I did see "What About Bob?" (several times) and I love the movie! Bob is SO irritating, but you have to like him. You simply have to!

I believe this thread is supposed to be about the new Harry Potter book. I can hardly wait! I will reread Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in the next week or so.

I did try to make it a good HP thread...(up in #3) even though I was laughing at feela's response. Tee hee.

I read Condor's note as sarcasm more than anything. Since I am old, and love the Harry Potter story, and have to put up with all my friends and relatives thinking I am insane, this was just a trifle. And I think he does enjoy sharing HP with his nephew. Who wouldn't?!

(I put my age down and it scared me so I had to take it out. Old will do. :D)

28ellevee
Jun 27, 2007, 6:30 pm

#25 GeorgiaDawn - My favorite line from that movie has to be, "Hi, I'm Bob would you knock me out?"

See, I have zero interest in those books. I enjoyed the first three, and that was pretty much it. Knowing me, I'll reread them a few years down the line and curse myself for not realizing the genius. Or something.

Hi. A number of messages here cross the line in the Terms of Service. This happens, but it's been happening somewhat too frequently in the last few days. Flags are not, of course, proof of bad faith, but the daily flag count has recently exploded and one user has shot into the top-5 flagged users in a very short time. (Although it's a measure of LT's generally amicable tone that this isn't actually that hard to do. Only 1,023 of 173,153 messages have drawn a single flag, a big chunk of which were pathetic attempts to spam LT commercially.) This marked escalation will not be tolerated indefinitely.

I call upon all members to think before they post something that could step over the line.

Bated breath indeed, "First amoung Sequels"* by Jasper fforde is due! Never mind that Deathly Hallows, buy something truly amazing.

41Condor

hi Clamairy,
yes, personal attacks are 'forbidden'. i should be more careful, though of course in the original Post #1 there is no personal attack whatsover? and that was quickly flagged??? (my post #16 crossed the line)

i suppose i should have taken the comment made to me implying something inappopriate between me and my 5 year old nephew as a 'personal attack'? since no one flagged that as 'abusive' but flagged the first post in this thread, that gave me some confusion... (of course i took it without any major offense since i'm adult enought to accept friendly jibes at my expense.)
(my only reference to 'erotic sensation' was about the expectation/desire for the new release, meant humorously of course).

*chuckles good naturedly*

Read the group description, Condor.

43Condor
Jun 28, 2007, 4:22 pm

Thank you clam airy! i did read the group description. 'smarmy sarcasm' is not really welcomed (actually 'unacceptable'), duly noted!(is that a new addition?) Btw, is playful irony ok sometimes?
as for flagging abuse, sarcasm is still not justification for that though, right?

also i did apologize to the person i might have offended personally before (even if unintentional in one LT member's case i still apologized since was not nice).

will you do the same?

Just for the record, and in case anyone else is in any doubt:

If you think that my comment about the 5 year old nephew implied anything inappropriate, you are dead wrong. Having deliberately baited people who read the books, you may have expected nasty attacks, and thus have leapt to make that inference.

The previous post had noted that it would be disturbing if anyone were actually having erotic sensations about the imminent publication of a new HP book. I was suggesting (tongue in cheek) that it might signify a desire to read about more snogging. I then wondered what the hypothetical five year old nephew (I understand the target audience for the books to be closer to nine) would think of all of the snogging in one of them. (Boredom? Disgust?) I never took your post seriously, or assumed that you have such a nephew, let alone read HP with one. I took that to be your playfully ironic way of suggesting that the mental age of those on LT who like the books is 5.

what does bated breath mean anyway?

48clamairy
Edited: Jun 29, 2007, 9:17 am

It's the same root as 'abate.' It means one isn't breathing regularly. You're more like to hold your breath or breathe shallowly when you're waiting for something (whether awful or wonderful) to occur, polly. Like when you're waiting to get on the road for that upcoming vacation!

#53 - Jasper fforde has written two series, the Thursday Next series which begins with The Eyre Affair and the Nursery Crime series wich begins with The Big Over Easy.

Neither are really fantasy, certainly not in a J RR Tolkein way. The basic presmise is alternative universe set more or less in Swindon (UK) and that there is a BookWorld behind/within the physical books that you can read.
They are packed full of puns, jokes, literary references, anti -corporate behavior and just plain funny.

I've placed a hold for The Big Over Easy on audio book and The Eyre Affair was at the library yesterday, so I'll go back and get it. They sound really fun!

I just finished my first Hiaasen and really enjoyed it (Skinny Dip).
