How did you feel about London Falling by Paul Cornell? Is it simply another urban fantasy for you, or are you awaiting further installments with baited breath? Let us know here.

I was put off a little by the beginning of this - the first scene or two didn't really match my expectations of the book. But I kept going, and really enjoyed it after all. (I admit part of my problem is that it is a very different style to Rivers of London, my other London Metropolitan Police With Magic series. (Which I really recommend but will shut up about now as other wise I may spoil something.)

I found that the London featured here felt like London, rather than a generic big city. (I also liked that the football team featured was West Ham rather than Arsenal or Chelsea...)

I enjoyed London Falling, and I'll likely pick up the next book. All of the characters felt quite different, rather than just the same character wearing different metaphorical hats. And the core mystery was interesting, and was resolved in a satisfying manner.

But it's a real set-up book, with a feel like a 2hour tv pilot. All the characters meeting, and discovering the Overarching Mythology, and then the book ending on a big "Bum Bum BUM" that tells us what ongoing standard mystery-of-the-week will be like... which is grand on tv, but the book didn't feel like a whole book, just a... well, a pilot for a book series.

But that "Bum Bum BUM" was sufficiently interesting that I will pick up the next book, because the idea of Lofthouse is so interesting... something has wiped her mind and her abilities. What? How? Why? Interesting!
